Guys, guys, trust me, if you can't get the WRX kits from Hobbylink Japan , then there's just probably no more out there. Look it up on the website, I posted the links to them directly already, in an earlier post. The shipping costs for HLJ are computed at the time of shipping, which is why they can't give you a direct quote, but it's usually somwhere around $10 for kit orders. Decals/parts are about $5. They take about 2 weeks to arrive, but it's indefinite if they have to back order them. HLJ is very good about that though. I've ordered many times from them and been happy.

kaos200-
That store have gotten those kits a long time ago. They have lots and lots of old kits from Tamiya, Hasegawa, and Fujimi, as if they went on a buying spree in the '80s and early '90s. I rarely see new stuff there. Scale modeling isn't, ahem, a booming business these days, at least in America. I don't really know how they got the kits, if distributors don't offer them. But yes, I had a similar experience trying to order another Hasegawa kit (Lancia Delta road car) through a major hobby retailer here, with no luck. But I don't need an excuse to stop by Scale Model Supplies, so I'll ask them how they got the kits. Otherwise, I would agree with Skippy, I've heard nothing but good things about HLJ. |

Hi All,
Is there a good Internet site out there to get these Tamiya models and accessories at good prices? |

This may be out of line, but since we are on the topic of Hasegawa, I want to share some of my disapointment with their WRX sedan kit.
Ten or so years ago, I built just about every Group C kit they put out (Porsche 962, Silk Cut Jaguar's, MB's, etc.) and I remembered them to be excellent kits (with outstanding decal sheets). After a modeling hiatus of about 7 years, I have recently started again, and have finished a ton of Tamiya kits. Compared to those Tamiya kits, my Hasegawa WRX has too many poorly placed mold pin marks that must be sanded, flash (plastic that oozes out between molds that must be trimmed), and sink marks that must be filled. This stuff is nonexistant in Tamiya kits, and I had grown accustomed to their perfectly molded parts. I had always considered Hasegawa to be a pretty close comptetitor to Tamiya, but I would definitely put them a step or two below now. Although, they are still miles ahead of Fujimi, who still sell some down-right primitive kits that require tons of guesswork as to piece fitment and pin marks, flash, and sink marks galore. Maybe I'm being a crybaby, but Hasegawa kits certainly aren't any cheaper than Tamiya, so I don't see an excuse for it. |

Imprezive: Check your email often HLJ will send you 3 emails, 1 that just an "echo" of your order, 1 that will give you an order #, and one when the item has been shipped and the UPS shipping #. Once you receive your order #, visit the website and check the status of your order. Once you have received the shipping notice, you can track the shipping via UPS' website. But be patient there is some lapse in the info exchange...good luck!
93 DL, yeah, I know what you mean. The ONLY thing that Hasegawa cars have over Tamiya, is that they provide harness parts, whereas Tamiya only give these as decals. S'ok though I always add the harnesses to my Tamiya models. Thing is, Hasegawa I guess focuses on their aircarfft kits a bit more, as those are excellent and do match Tamiya kits in quality (most of the time, anyway). And Fujimi......woo weee! They really need to work on their kits. Fujimi just tries to make it really easy to buld and that gets the kits out faster, but as far as scale fidelity, they are way behind. I said it before, and I'll say it till I'm blue in the face, or they prove me wrong, but Tamiya is by far the best, bar none. I do have one gripe though, the 2001 Tamiya catalog is rather plain! Ah well, s'ok they'rre making the STi kit, that redeems them for a boring catalog this year, hee hee.....as always.... Gotta fly! Skippy |

Thanx for that other link RS, but, that's the 1/10 scale RC car! I'm sure the 1/24 scale version of the WRC car is not far behind. It usually works the other way around, they'll do a 1/24 WRC car, then the raod car, as they did with the EVO VI. Strange that they did it this way this time, but I'm confident they'll have the plastic 1/24th WRC car soon...

I hear ya about Tamiya's new offerings being kinda blah. If you follow their monthly new releases on the web, it seems like 1/24 scale automotive kits are dwindling, especially compared to all the RC stuff, which I respect but don't enjoy. I'm guessing that the RC stuff pays the bills for Tamiya, and allows them to put such great engineering and detail into their static kits. That is at least the impression I get at any major hobby retailer. [spelling] [This message has been edited by '83 DL WGN (edited April 11, 2001).] |

83 DL...
Yeah, actually Tamiya's bread and butter are the 1/32 scale motorized cars! You believe that!!??!! Second to that, yeah the RC stuff. Which is OK, I mean for scale fidelity in RC, you can't beat Tamiya either. But what I really meant was how blase' the new Tamiya catalog is, but now that you mention it, yeah there's not a lot in the way of new releases. They've put a lot of effort into making their "full-view" kits: The 911 GT1, CLK-GTR, F50, and now the TS-020, YZF-R1 Taira, and even the F1-2000. All are now available as "full-view" kits. They're ok, but naa, I like the regular versions better. However what Tamoya has just released isn't that bad eithe: Porsche 911 GT3, Kawasaki Ninja '00 (Also now in "full-view" or regualr trim in one box!), Nastri Azurro NSR500, Suzuki RGV Gamma Telefonica, and soon, of course the Impreza WRX STi '02........ But give them time, the word is that their expending a great deal on the new 1/32 scale Mitsubishi Zero Fighter. Yup, that's right, the airplane. Apparently it's taking up a majority of their plastic model efforts right now. But as soon as it's released, I hope to see a bevy of new car kits.... Gotta fly! Skippy |

Studio 27 makes a resin 1/24th scale Subaru Impreza WRX type RA street version. These kits from Japan a a little expensive. They run about $125. I have a modelers 1/24th scale 1998 WRC Subaru Impreza. This is mostly resin with some white metal parts. It cost me about $130. unfortunately these kits are hard to find. HLJ doesn't cary to much of these kits. There are alot more available than what they list. There are some model pics on my page. http://community.webtv.net/RallyeX/wrc555 RallyeX |

You boys want a serious model?
Try this one! Tamiya 1/10 Scale Nitro, 4WD, 2-speed transmission, top speed about 50. Too bad I still haven't put it together, but I have it! Have dozens of other R/C car kits too (as well as plastic), - Love speed! Sooberman! Darn, it's tough to get a pic under 20Kb! |

OK guys, HLJ finally has the WRX STi listed as a "future release". It also, has the full-view Ferrari F1-2000, and the Kawasaki Ninja. But I hav seen the actual kits already avaiable at TamiyaCon.. hmmmm...
What's going on, HLJ usually has the stuff just a bit before we get it here, but it seems, at least in this case, it's the other way around. Guess they just brought the kits over for the show. But anyway, 1/24 WRX STi, about 5 weeks away!.... Gotta fly! Skippy |
