Best Turbo for the Ej22t hybrid
Trying to start a discussion on the best turbo application for the ej22t hybrid. What are some of the best turbos for the ej22t powerband with the increased limit to 7k on the RS heads? I know it will come down to power goals but something in the range of 250-275 whp with 15-20 psi daily driven?

I know very little about the powerband for a DOHC/EJ22T setup for 275hp and daily-driven. Sorry.

I was planning on running a GT30R/GT32 or maybe a FP 20G/Green, but I'm not sure. Thoughts??

Garrett GT30R
On a WRX with an EJ22T bottom end it makes about 325 AWHP on 91 pump gas and 396 AWHP on race fuel. That's from Mike at MPJ out here in NorCal. This is with stock WRX heads and I think the CFM on them is lower than the RS heads, but I'm not positive. It's a custom up/Down Pipe setup, but Garrett turbos are nice.

Yikes, 325 to the wheels, I highly doubt the RS drivetrain can handle that much for long, and that is the the GT30R correct? Scarey fast I bet. Is this with a stock ej22t shortblock?

I'm using a VF22 on my hybrid. 22lbs daily down in denver. Never had it dyno'd but it's definately quick enough to embarass the occasional LS1.

Wow, that is what somebody suggested earlier, does it hold 22 lbs all the way to red line? No problems with reliability of the stock block and what not. Damn youre in laramie, I got a ticket there, and forgot to pay, damn Wyoming

Stock EJ22T @ 18PSI I think. I'm not sure what tranny he was using, but more than likely you'll need a new tranny.

The car is quite driveable... just a bit noisy, not too bad though unless you ignore the ballbearing in a blender sound. FutureSTIer, don't bother with the cometic head gasket, the turbo legacy one works just fine.

it's will lower the compression even more, I figure if I am going to pull the heads anyway, I might as well go with aftermarket ones that won't blow, we will see I guess....

what size t3/t4 turbo do you guys think would be good for a dohc 98/ej22t setup? I am only going to run the setup on my ej25 block with like 4psi for now. I was thinking about getting a straight t3. But getting something that would still be efficient at around 12-13psi when I swap in engine. I have heard alot of good things about a t3 super 60 but need more specs.

T3/T4 60-1 trim with a .86 A/R should suit your needs quite nicely. Straight T3's are WORTHLESS on anything bigger than like a 1300cc motor.

I have a TD04L on mine and it's to small and jerky. I just bought a VF22 cheap, so I'll be smiling soon.

I am using a VF-29 on my build. I am also going with a higher than average CR at 8.8 or 9.0:1. The VF-29 will spool up before 3000rpms, and hold 17psi all the way to 7000rpm. The higer CR will give a little better off boost driveability. I figure along with JDM EJ20K big port heads (stock) and the STi yellow tops I have, I will be getting +/-350 HP at the crank. I want something that is very streetable and not pushing the ragged edge of power. I am a "do it once, right!" kind of guy and want something that will run 100k mi without major mechanical failure. I ran this all past Marc R. last week, and he concurred that it was a very sound set up for my modest goals...

sounds good, nice compression by the way. Doesn't look like you lose all the low end like me with the lower compression. I will make up for it with boost down the road, damn it I need a Link Plus, anybody?
