I did some Ride and Drive events with bridgestone. There Potenza RE960 Pole Position has been my ultra high performance summer tire ever since.

I can get a great deal on the Toyo R1R. There isnt much written about the tire except the c&d review that scored it better than the star specs and not as favorable as the ps2 and the so4.

I don't know how you compare tires that are not classed the same (especially when the tire test is hosted by tire rack who has a proprietary classing system).

RSR's are back ordered...

And idk. That's a great tire on lighter cars. Heavier cars not so much.

There are rumors of lots of new tires coming out this year... If I were you I'd wait for few weeks (3-4) before ordering to see how things change.

For example:
BFG unofficially announced a new tire at the Solo Nationals banquet. (Probably 1st quarter, also BFG is part of Michelin who makes the Pilot Super Sport which is awesome)

Bridgestone RE11A has been out in Japan for a year and will come here in select sizes. Faster than RE11, which was the hot tire a couple years ago. (I'm sure it will be pricey like the RE11 is though.)

Dunlop ZII is coming 1st quarter and will be a tad faster than Z1, according to their marketing blurbs. I'm personally very intrigued by these because the ZI is such a great all around tire (and if I were you making a decision to buy a tire right now I'd go with the ZI or pre-order the ZII).

Kumho has the V720, which despite the name is not a successor to the V710 r-comp, but instead a replacement for the XS. The XS has been good in the dry but reportedly awful in rain.

Falken is still in the rumor stage, and the rumor I've heard is a successor to the 615K which I really like.

Give any of those tires a search and you'll find more information about it. In my opinion, now is definitely not the time to buy an UHP summer tire for next year

However tires that cannot be bought because of inventory shortage are worse than 2-3 times more expensive tires that can be bought on the spot. Regardless of performance or price.

Krzys

PS Apparently one needs to buy RSRs whenever they are available not when one needs new tires

The new stars pecs are right up your alley. Shouldn't get as greasy as the old ones either.

And are cheaper than the old ones

Somehow, I think I know what your thoughts will be about them. You've made it very clear who's camp you sit with.

Just get some PSS and call it a day. From Tirerack's site its only $20/per more than the R1R but they should last you longer and those $80 will pay for it self in longevity.

Not sure what "deal" you can get on those R1R's but I always heard R1R's don't really last on the track. Unless that has changed.
