Default License plate light problem

FYI: I did search the threads first before posting up. the previous threads didn't have the symptoms that I am experiencing.

2002 WRX Wagon

The license plate light on the sits on the driver side (left side) works, but when I turn on the lights, it doesn't come on unless i walk back there and hit the bumper. I have replaced the bulb and its new. But the light only comes on when i give the bumper a little nudge. Does anyone have an idea what it could be?

Thanks in advance!

A wire/connection is loose in the bumper.

I suggest you try cleaning the bulb socket contacts. Remove the bulb and use a cotton swab with some alcohol on it or WD-40 it works good for cleaning also. Clean the center conductor and the base ground. If that doesn't help then look for a faulty wire connection to the socket. If the socket depends on a chassis ground connection for the return side then clean that area of the chassis where the socket attaches to.
