Also way to have the willpower to hold out for the right one! I know that's hard.

On my way home last night from looking I booked an appointment to look at a 2004 FXT 5 speed. Today traveled an hour and a half to go look at it. Awesome! 2 owner, fully maintained at Subaru dealerships for its entire life with all receipts and original books. Immaculate interior, exterior 8/10. Engine is up to date with everything (timing belt, water pump, battery), new tires, new pads. Drives great, suspension feels like it's new. Undercarriage looks like it was garaged (because New England winters are HARSH), barely any rust whatsoever.

Had to give a deposit right away, I wasn't letting this thing go to anyone else but me (Subaru enthusiast like the rest of us).

They're going to do some touch up paint details on an exterior scratch and front bumper (rock chips) and give me another touch up bottle to keep up with. Then I pick it up Tuesday. Can't wait to join you guys in the FXT club!!!
Congrats, man! I agree! Way to hold out for the right one! Post pics when you pick it up!

Default Best MY for Forester XT

Your attraction to XT's makes me re-think my plans.
I have a white 2008 XT auto with 46k (kilometres in Australia), regularly serviced by a dealership, always garaged, straight as a die, lovely to drive, used mainly for a few longer highway journeys interstate, never gone bush.
I was considering trading up to a new model, probably because it is five years old.
Maybe I should hang on to it. It could be a classic.

Not sure about Aussieland, but I'll tell you right now - there's an even split for the Subaru guys around California: They either don't have any idea what a Forester is or how awesome they are, or they literally want to buy my car on the spot.

I am the proud new owner of an 06xt 5mt. I paid a little more for it than I probably should have but I have no regrets. It drives sooooo well. I like it much better than my 04 wrx. I have never driven an automatic foz but I have to speak up and say it's worth all the pain and trouble to get the 5mt. I'm in AZ and I found mine on the private classifieds here on NASIOC. it was shipped from Arkansas (which took a whole lot longer than I would have hoped) but it was worth the wait. My advice if you are getting one online is to have LOTS of pics sent to you and pay the $100 to have them take it to a local dealer and get the pre-sale inspection.

I'm really hoping to pick up an XT, but it's tough finding a manual... Which my should i shoot for? Found an auto 2010 xt for 15,000..

How tough are these foresters? Reliability?
Real world mpg? Range?

Anyone change out the terrible chrome grill on the newer ones with the sport mesh ?

Good in snow? What chasis are they built on?

If you want a manual you are looking at 04-08 only.

Tough? It's a Subaru

Mileage, figure low to mid 20's

Snow? It's a Subaru

Chassis? It's a tall Impreza, which is a shortened Legacy anyway (all Subarus are based in some way off the Legacy chassis)
