Anybody do the 'grounding mod' yet?
Going to do this later today (thurs). Between 3k and 4k RPM's I'm experiencing a bucking and slight surging of the car under low or moderate throttle. Any of you guys experiencing this as well?
I'll let you know how it changes. http://i-club.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=141932 |

This is a common prob in the RX-7's as well.....known as the 3800 hesitation.
Im yet to have the problem, so I can't make many suggestions...if you want, you can head to the forums and do a search (top right corner) and see if that helps you at all? http://www.rx7club.com/forum/ - Jason |

Crap, won't be able to do it til tomorrow. (friday)
I went to both Lowe's and Home Depot looking for 8 awg ring terminals and neither one of them had them. By the time I went back to Pyramid (bought wire there earlier) they were closed. I didn't want to pay $4 bux for four gold ring terminals (overkill!), figuring I could get some cheap ones at a hardware store. Turned out to be a bad idea, all the ones I went to only carried them up to 10 awg. Also, most of the ground bolt nuts in the engine bay are 12mm, so lo and behold, Lowes, Sears and Home Depot only carried the tools individually up to 11mm. If you wanted 12mm you had to buy a set. So, I ended up paying $30 bux for a set of tools. (Needed them anyway, but I hate being forced into a purchase because you only need *one* item at the time). All in all, what a non-productive day. Tomorrow I'll revisit some audio shops and see if I can find the correct ring terminals. Big enough to fit around the 12mm bolts and accommodate 8 gauge wire. I'm going to use a distribution block to split the 8 gauge wire, and run one 4 gauge wire into it from the battery. Give it a cleaner look. I'll make one last desperation attempt tonight at fred meyer. I doubt they'll have ring terminals, but I guess we'll see. |

Try Frigid North for wire and parts. It is off of Spenard.

I completed this mod and I ran one extra ground wire to the top of the drivers side strut tower as well. I had to change out my battery terminal bolt for a longer one to be able to fit all 6 connections on the negotive battery terminal. This mod removed what I like to call the flat spots in the acceleration of the car. In my car there was one at about 4800 rpm. I call it a flat spot because that is what it feels like when I am accelerating. Like the car is almost not getting enough air or something and just flattened out. The mod fixed that. Now it is totally smooth and solid acceleration through the rpm range. If anyone has any questions then let me know.

I got the same results. Any 'rough' spots are no longer there, and acceleration is simple and smooth. Ah, just the way I like it.

Connections 1&2 - There's one ground point on each end of the manifold. Very obvious and easy to spot, just a bolt on each end sticking straight up. You'll see other ground wires already going into each one.
There's another bolt on the firewall, directly in the middle of the car behind the intercooler. It also has a ground going into it. Another is right next to battery, on the driver side fender. The last is on the passenger side strut tower. You'll see a black metal strip connected to two of the strut bolts, then going down behind the firewall. Just connect the ground to one of the bolts. Here's a picture from the other thread: |
