Default STI shift trim in WRX

Just done doing a mod to the car. I installed a STI shift trim. What do you think? Took me roughly 10 hours but that was due to prep and gluing. My question is soon i'm going to change the gear knob, how is it removed from the boot? want to change it to this:

Looks good. If you have a steady hand and a toothpick, you can paint the STi logo on the trim with some CBR/pink/red.

Removing the knob isn't hard. Just have to pry the boot off of the little retainer under the knob. But the new knob needs to have that retainer under it or the boot has nowhere to attach. I can't tell if that knob has it, but it's something to keep in mind.

Perhaps someone else has already come up with a good way around that, but my Subaru/Momo knob that I bought for my WRX has the groove for a boot.

How would that take you 10 hours?

Just pull the boot off of the stock knob and unscrew.

I'm pretty sure he means the trim around the boot, not the knob. hahahaa

Here is a similar set up that I had in my 06 WRX. I have no idea why it would take 10 hours to install the trim or why you would have to glue anything. It took me about 30 min to measure and trim the WRX boot to work the STi trim. It all bolts on, no glue required. How did you install it without removing the knob in the first place?

Yes it is a genuine Subaru Part # 92129FE100
Brought it from here: https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/p...roducts_id=819

It took roughly 10 hours give or take, because I had to pull the boot of the wrx ring that goes underneath the shift housing. I then bought a STI ring that has the holes already moulded into the ring. I had the glue the boot from the WRX ring to the STI ring and I had to leave it dry properly. Then once the glue had dried I had to drill the holes in the boot so the screws could go through. Then attach it. Then put it in the car. I did not want to rush this type of job and did it properly.

I thought I'd mention that I have another STi Shift trim. It is in second hand condition with some marks and dints. If anyone interested pm me, I will send pics. I also have the shift housing in ok condition.

Wrap your hand around the shift boot, near the bottom of the knob, in a way that resembles masturbation. Force the shift boot down, towards the floor of the car. It will separate from the shift knob.

Spin the shift knob counter clockwise and it will come off.

Reverse for new knob.

i got lucky and just found a whole shift boot/trim/surround from a parted STi for around $30. I still can't see how it would take 10 hours. I reupholstered my ENTIRE interior in leather in about 6 hours.

The shift trim is sold. I had some other buyer's from other forums. I do have another but it comes with housing and boot. I'll do a proper ad in parts for sale.
