$3500 Budget What To Do?
So i have a 02 wrx one of the bearings is toast so i would like some help/input from you guys to see what some more of my options are. I was going to get a new or rebuilt short block and just put it back together. What i want to know is could i upgrade some stuff and still make my budget. I can go over by 3-400 but want to keep it under 3500 Total so including putting the motor back together and in the car which i was quoted $1500 for that so throw me your ideas
THX ps. all piping pre and post turbo has been upgraded

Put the motor back together and spend the rest on college?
Can you elaborate a little more on your question? You say "upgrade some stuff". Maybe my Glen Livet whiskey is kicking in, but I'm having trouble figuring out what you are asking. |

A list of all of the mods would help.
You've given us a budget. Now give us a goal for the car. What do you want to do with it? Race between stop lights, go auto crossing, road racing, rally cross...the list goes on. |

What does the $1500 you mentioned earlier "get" you, and what are you planning to do with the car? |

First off, putting question marks in front of something doesn't help get a point across, nor does using a million of them in the thread title.
Yes, your grammar does indeed suck. While you may THINK you are getting your point across, it's not clear to you that you are not. Notice how many people have asked for clarification? With a budget like that, you MIGHT be able to add forged pistons to the motor, but not likely. With adding in something like forged pistons, you add other issues. Search the forum for these. |

Mods are UP, DP CBE turbo inlet and intake as said in OP all piping pre and post turbo are upgraded. As far as plans for the car it was my DD but if i could get some added goodies to make some more power while getting it back on the road would be nice.
GOAL FOR CAR Make good power nothing crazy im still limited by injectors and fuel pump ATM and it will be most likely b my DD i dont track it Last edited by krazykuppa; 01-28-2013 at 10:49 PM. |

Forged pistons and conn rods. Should set you back 1000-1500 for budget build. Than have your guy reassemble and put back in for your other 1500. Pro tune. There's your 3500.

To be honest, spend it on replacing any maintinence items on the block while its apart. Use quality components instead of budget ones, and clean and prep thoroughly. $1500 sounds rather cheap for a quality rebuild by someone who knows what they are doing... Keep in mind that the extra $ to do it right the first time outweighs rebuilding the block again in 60k.
I don't think he could get a 207 for his budget and still be able to replace maintinence items like the water pump, timing belt, etc... Like he should. |

Yes and no on the 207 details. I've done it twice now and if you work it properly it wouldn't be hard to get everything in and done for 3700. That said you don't need to replace everything if you get a lower mileage motor. Just the belt.. that is all on a case by case basis obviously but I've run 20k+ on both of my 207s and didn't do much past an oil change and belt + tune.
