Watch what you say....I have another offer from another manufacturer already, but yours is better. I'll smooth the road for you with Andrew so he will know you are calling and he can let the "I need to talk to Andrew gatekeeper" know that you can pass!
Do you have ratios ironed out yet? And add your facebook to your profile too...I had to manually search for you on facebook and now you owe .0002% of my eventual carpal tunnel surgery bill.

Ratios have not been discussed in length yet, from what was discussed the ratio also plays a role in the overall strength of the gear set so before anything is set in stone I'll post up the options they're recommending and we'll have a discussion on here. I updated my user profile to reflect my facebook/google +, now there will be no fapping for the rest of the evening -Phil |

Phil
Any proposed ratios for 1-5 Road/Track? A final of 4.444 fits more with a dedicated track car. I think a street/race set up could benefit with finals of 3.9 giving a better commute to the track and keep those pesky Auto-crossers happy at the same time. Interesting point you made that helical are stronger than square cut. Has anyone considered a herringbone or double helical gear to remove the axial load? |

But the 4.11 or 4.44 would be ideal IMO for track for sure. I was lucky enough to get a killer deal when I upgraded to a 04 six speed with the Suretrac and did the hub/knuckle swap to run the r180 with a 3.90 and when I get one of the 5MT it will go into my GC the WRX is staying six speed for now. I have a few blocks I'm playing with now and trying to decide what route I'm going to go with the GC Here are a few pics I just took. The EMCO Spur gear (straight cut) is over ten years old and has been sitting in my garage for almost two years so it has a little corrosion. Take a look at the way the doggear has been finished, no sharp edges and the overall look and finish is superior to the below image syncro'd gear. I believe this was from a sequential dual clutch DP gearbox. Now this gear is a syncro'd gear for a subaru 5 speed made by an aftermarket company, this is just for comparison and is by no means slandering this companies product. Just for comparison purposes. Sharp edges, and to me looks like poor quality material, these gears are not that old either, maybe 3 years since they were produced. So as soon as I get a quote ( soon I promise, I'm on top of it ), I'll post up the optional ratios, we'll have a discussion on what the majority will be happy with regarding the syncro'd stuff. Micah & Clint we'll be in touch with development of the dogbox, for those interested in the dogbox, make sure you PM me and I'll add you to the list. In all honesty the dogbox is really the way to go if you're going to track the car but if you're looking for a remedy to the 5MT weak ass gearing and want to upgrade and keep the longer gears, the syncro'd set would be the way to go. -Phil |

Oh wow. I know enough about my financial situation to know that I certainly won't be a 'launch customer' or anything, and as I'm looking at something for street use (albeit around V6 STI non-RA ratios including FD) I may not be the intended market either, but definitely watching this now that I've found it. Nothing against PPG or Albins, but I'd wager their consumer grade kits aren't anywhere near as finished as something coming out of Emco.

Hey don't get me wrong, I think the PPG units and the Albins stuff is fantastic and is the best stuff out right now. But..... After talking with them John & Rich (Owners) and their mechanical engineer Anthony extensively about the Subaru 5MT and how weak it is. They gave me the opportunity to pitch them, and I earned the opportunity to get them to make a product that quite honestly, is going to be the best gear set available for the Subaru 5MT and any other Subaru gear box going forward. I have a great relationship with the guys at EMCO, I've been invited by them the last two years as a guest for the EMCO gears Classic at Mid-Ohio to hang out in their suite and mingle with some of the biggest names / team owners in road racing motorsport. I'm all for quality and providing the best for my customers, so are many of the vendors on this site! There are products that are sold on this site by vendors that I wouldn't use on my car or sell to any of my customers. But that's just how I roll. I don't make a ton of money, but I love and enjoy what I do. That's all that matters -Phil Last edited by Flat 4 Motorsport; 02-10-2013 at 07:15 PM. |

Will there be grinding required for the dog box gears every what 40k miles? I hear that is a real detraction to going dog box.

Dog gears/engangement rings are the same after xx varibles stuff will need to be replaced. The syncro'd sets are more of a daily driver option. People need to understand racing parts are just that, they're racing parts. Most race teams do tear down after a race or a couple races. Things are engineered for specific reasons and race parts are not intended to go 100+k miles. Phil |

That is part and parcel of what Andrew and I talked about...he'll holler at you more about it in length though. He's also an XBOX dork, so if you really want to talk to him, get his gamer tag and chat about trans stuff while he's waxing your ass in Halo. Dude's good.

If you haven't already called him, I'm 98% sure I'm going up to his place this weekend for hot man lovin' and to steal as many free parts as I can. If so, I'll PM you my cell number and you can call me on saturday and I'll can either let you holler at Andrew or act as the talk through if he's knee deep in a project car.

He also gave me all the hot steamy details of your man to man relationship. One word Ron, Lubrication It is key my my friend. Anyways if he (Andrew) wants to chime in on the thread I encourage it. If anyone has questions please don't hesitate to ask. I sure as hell dont know everything, but I can email the engineer working on the project if its something I cant answer. I also will have an updated website soon with some cool new features. That will also highlight this project. -Phil |

Swoon...so Phil, I never heard back if EMCO wanted input on the road race ratios as most (all) of those ratios that I compiled are for rally or drag. None of them stretch out first to keep 2-5 tight, except for the custom set that I was working out with PAR.

Very cool!
I am definitely looking to upgrade my 5 speed in my 12 year old WRX. I also find it interesting that the two piece case is no longer the issue. I have been on the Case flex side of the fence for years. But it looks as if some people a lot smarter than me are saying that's not the case, so I think I may have to believe them. Hopefully the pricing for the syncro boxes are somewhat less than what's currently out there, being a stateside company already may help with that. |

Sign me up! Will there be a first group price? I'm sure its to early but I'm sure you will want a down payment from us. I have been looking into a PPG setup for my car but this would be a great option instead!
