30k service at the dealer is $600.

Smart Service will do it for around $400.

Be careful - some dealers add extra items like "fuel conditioner" and charge you.

Make sure you insist on getting done ONLY what is on SOA's 30,000 mile service.

I had quite a spat with Chaplins over this - result, about $100 of crap-ola off my bill. I had even given them a list of "this is what I want done".

Their claim "well this is OUR 30k service". I said I didn't care, because I wanted SUBARU's 30k service items done.

Ouch on both accounts. We had the 96 OBS done for $180-$200 or something.

It was done at Bob's Subaru Repair in The Dalles Oregon. BUT! He just had back surgery or something, so it would be hard to get appointments for a while. (its a sole proprietorship)

If you go to Chaplin's, speak only with Scott in the service department. He is THE guy to talk to.

Honestly hes just a good guy and he's all over things when it comes to your car. If you dont know who Scott is, he's the one who looks exactly like John Malkovich.
