Default Different Part # and Price for 06 Fuel Pump Assembly Fix For Fuel Starvation???

I have been having the fuel starvation problem during high G turns and decided to get the the 05 STI fuel pump assembly to fix some of the starvation when we noticed that the 06 had a different part number and a slightly higher price. Maby Subaru caught on to the fuel starvation issues in the WRX and STI. I bought one it will be in on Wednesday and the install will be on Thursday. Then I go off to the bend that always gives me an issue to see it this fixes it. I will keep everyone updated. I also am switching over to a Walbro 255lph at the same time hopefuly this combo works.

For what it's worth, I have to be damn near empty (like, on fumes) to get any starvation in my 05STi.

I think you should be concerned about the pick-up. I think you can address that issue without changing the pump. A bigger pump isn't going to help, you'll just be sucking that much more air. Start with the small stuff.

You would think the pump would help a bit to since it is bigger.

Not at all. If the pump is sucking air, than it does not matter how big the pump is, it will suck air too. The pump is not the problem at all. The pickup is not sitting in the fuel, no pump, no matter how big, will suck fuel, if the pickup is in the air. A bigger pump will simply pump more air...Again, you have a pickup location issue, which will not be fixed with a pump. A shop vac, with a pick-up in the air, would not suck fuel.

you only need to get the surge tank style intank assembly:

That big box at the bottom is the surge tank and it is stock on the 04+ STi.

I've been having the same issue when around one third of a tank. Are you guys saying that our '05 WRX's don't have this surge tank style intake assembly? Anybody have a schematic for the '05 fuel pickup setup? mtrex, please let us know if this fixes your problem. I wonder if this could be considered a warranty issue with the fuel cutout problem some of us have? So far it's just been a pain in the ass when it's happened, but it could be a big problem in some situations...........unwanted off throttle oversteer, like. Not to mention other fuel starvation issues at high RPM's, yuck.

the problem is only a problem if it's there.

iow, worry about other things until you fuel cut w/more than 1/4 tank of gas in the tank.
