Yep. I've seen both in person and really couldn't tell a difference.

No need for a tune yet. I like it so far going to flash over to stage one and see the difference though

You need a tune.

You've completely thrown off the mass air flow sensor by altering the intake piping. A correct tune will have MAF scaling to dial it back in.

Usually aftermarket intakes are larger piping, so slower moving air, so lower MAF readings, so less fuel. but since it's actually more air, now being given less fuel, you're leaning out an already incredibly lean tune.

My buddy had it on his car for over a year without an issue. I will get a tune soon but it's not necessary unless you start changing such things as the DP, inter cooler and such, I asked several different Subaru specific shops in the area all with the same answer.

Got her got her on the dyno today

First pull was about the same as this result, the second pull it dropped to about 277 hp 285 tq due to heat soak so after letting it sit for a while and spraying the IC with water, this is what it did

I completely agree! As long as hes driving like a 90 year old, he should be okay. I would get a tune quick bud!

You recommend to use the stock air with panel filter cosworth on stage 2 2011 wrx? or.... a full intake ?

my setup:

process west tmic
synapse diverter valve
tsudo bellmouth downpipe
invidia n1 dual catback
protune 19-20 psi

Well there you have it everyone, some guy was fine with putting on an aftermarket intake without tuning for it.

What are the names of the shops that told you it's okay to run an intake without a tune on this model?

Look smartass it's my car and I will do with it what I want.that being said I did not say it will work flawlessly without a tune yes it will run slightly rich. And i called several shops around the Charlotte Nc area . There specific words were with that intake they have not seen any 2008-2013 WRXs with issues. It's not running rich it's not boost spiking. I drive my car with care I don't thrash it around like some of you not saying you do.Yes I will have a tune soon but no it's not necessary. This is a picture thread not an opinion thread if I wanted your opinion I would have posted this in a different thread.

You're absolutely wrong on this one. Blehh was 100% correct. Any aftermarket intake (and possibly but less drastically certain aftermarket filters) on these cars requires a tune due to airflow differences.

Your friend might have had it on his car for a year with "no issues", but no apparent issues does not mean that he wasn't putting his engine at severe risk. As Blehh said, you're basically hoping that your ecu will adapt the fuel mappings to compensate for the lean conditions that intake will cause.

Again, no apparent issues does not mean that your car is not at severe detonation risk due to running lean.

Ah, that's a good point (you wouldn't be running rich, you'd be lean) but yeah, that's a good point, good luck!

Blow your engine for all I care, one less semi-literate idiot on the road with a wrx. Just don't spread your uneducated opinion for others to interpret as truth.

Will do. Not saying what I said is truth nor right. But my perception and measurements should be correct the maf is exactly In the same spot from the filter to the turbo inlet pipe also the tubing the maf sits in is 65mm oh wait that's the same as factory. By using these measurements the maf should be able to do its job and the ecu should be capable of making the corrections necessary. Like I said though I don't plan on running it wild or wot until I tune it. I'm just waiting on the tune may just use an AP to flash it for now.

You're a moron. Lol

Do some real research before modding your car, though why should you care if you blow your engine right...

I can't but I do remember all the debates all the pros had on the forum a year or so back.. basically as far as cai n sf intakes are concerned... I think it was left that they don't do much more unless u get a pro tune for it. I ordered a Cobb sf intake with box mainly for the sound.. I don't expect a world of diffrence...

I had a guy at central fl turbo tell me today I'll get more hp from a stock IC to front mount ...

Yeah man no worries, just research. The measurements you took don't take into account the piping differences and airflow in that intake versus the stock intake. MAF sensors on modern turbocharged applications are extremely tricky. It's one of the reasons why SPT stopped offering the intake for late model WRX/STIs. It's the same deal on the Mazdaspeeds that also use MAF sensors. The stock intakes on those cars are horrible, and aftermarket intakes actually give moderate gains... But with direct injection and no tune, the fuel pumps can't keep up. Now on the older SRT-4s with a MAP sensor, you can do an intake all day long with no tune... But it also doesn't net you any more power than stock. Generally, the Subaru stock intake is pretty well engineered, so intakes don't give any gains at stock+ levels (other than sound) but they have to be tuned for.

Stock intake is good for 350+ hp... But you're already at stage 2, and it's just a map swap away for an intake, so why not...?
