Default AP with Intake

Anyone running an intake with the stg 2 AP? I have the TXS shorty intake and it is as close to stock as intakes get? Anyone pros out there know if that will work with AP? If not what will be problems that i experience?

You'll experience the car running lean.

Given that the intake is giving you exactly zero benefit right now, why not go back to stock.

For WRX, if I have stock airbox minus the silencer, and replaced the stock paper filter with panel-type K&N filter, is it still compatible with AP Stg1 (or Stg2)? Will I notice any performance enhancement if doing such?

I have the injen intake and k&n typhoon. I felt more power with the injen though.

I'm running my STi with that intake setup. No noticable increase, just sounds cool. I don't believe you would physically notice an increase with any intake though, the gain just isn't all that much. People claim the turbo spools quicker without the silencer too. I just notice the turbo now because you can't help but hear it. The car's ram-air setup is pretty efficient.

Do you know if this setup will run lean like other short ram or CAI?
If this setup is good, compatible with AP Stg1 or Stg2, then I don't mind spending $50 for K&N plus taking out the silencer for another 50rpm advance in spool-up ^_^
Mine is 4eat so everybit of chance to get faster spool up will help, as long as doing such won't mess with the stock MAF sensor, etc.

from cobbs stg2 map notes

Additional Notes:
For use with a stock turbo, stock injectors, stock intake and a TURBOBACK
exhaust system. Additional modifications such as uppipe and underdrive pulley
are still within the acceptable parameters of this mapping. MUST USE FACTORY
INTAKE. NO AFTERMARKET INTAKES ARE CERTIFIED COMPATIBLE WITH THIS MAPPING.
Best if used with 91 and 92 octane. If any knock is present even when using 91
octane, try using the California specific map which addresses lower fuel quality
situations.
Target boost pressure is 15.8psi +/- 0.5psi depending on vehicle and conditions.
If after 1-2 weeks worth of driving you are still unable to reach target boost
pressures, you may try using the HWG version of this map.
Target A/F Ratios are mid 12's under load before the onset of boost. Under full
load by 3500 RPM the A/F Ratio will drop to mid 11:1 and gradually run richer as
RPM's increase ending at mid to high 10:1 A/F at redline.
The "Speed Limiter", which in reality just turns off boost control above 130mph,
is removed.
The Rev limiter at 7250 RPM.

I just read that too, thanks though. But they didn't clarify about the stock intake. Do i need the full intake system? Because i have heard of setup that don't use that ram scoop or silencer and just the stock box sucking air from the fender. Is AP just wanting me to just the stock airbox? Does it matter the route that the air travels to get to the air box?

I read from Cobb website for one article about intakes (here I don't quote it). Basically aftermarket intake will change the following such that Cobb stays with stock intake:
1) Larger diameter before and after the MAF sensor (= more airflow, eventually running lean)
2) Physical structure of the aftermarket ducting disturbing the airflow, no matter it creates turbulence or smoother than stock, but just not the same as stock (= spike or surge, or simply "not smooth" in power delivery)

So, if I stick with stock airbox and ducting around the MAF sensor, that means I have stock diameter, stock-smoothness of flow, but just deleting the silencer (which is about few feet away from the MAF sensor and I believe no effect in smoothness for those air passing by the MAF sensor) and replacing the stock paper filter with a panel-type K&N (and here I believe air smoothness is not changed but only the air velocity is increased)..... so it doesn't violate the above two points?

...add notes to my previous post:
Cobb sells K&N panel filter on their website for 2002-2005 WRX, so that's why I think it is compatible with bone stock, or Stg1, Stg2 WRXs. If K&N panel is good for Stg1 and Stg2, then I think removing the silencer is still acceptable as long as using stock airbox, stock intake ductings.

Correct. you'll be fine. fyi if you are Not in an STi then you should change your uppipe for stage 2. extra heat and velocity on that Cat is bad news....

Thx for reply.

What if i were to eliminate the whole silencer and the air ram? Just have it so my air box is sucking air from the fender? Would that affect the airflow to mess up AP?

That is how mine is currently running. I have a 3.5" rubber hose that seals the box off to the fender area for cold air. No problems with it at all. I am going to be replacing the inlet hose soon that will go from teh MAF to the turbo.
