Question 3.0 H6

anybody out there tried putting the new H-6 in an Impreza? Sport Compact Car thought the 2.5 and new 3.0 were close in size enough, and that the tranny mounting bolts would line up also.

That would be nice. I would consider doing that if it actually works.

Thumbs up

I think that would be a fantastic idea. There are a couple things to worry about though...

One, the 6 only uses automatic trannies. This isn't a problem if you want to put it on an automatic Impreza, but if you have a manual...you'd need a flywheel. However I bet (think, speculate, am not sure) that a Porsche flywheel would probably work. Maybe?

But, I am sure there will be some electronic issues. I have no clue what they might be thought.

Finally, it would be a very good idea to mess with the motor before you put it in. In stock form it really isn't that impressive. But if you could bump the compression ratio, do some head work...it could turn out to be a N/A monster! Thing is...I don't know of anyone in the US who has done any work to that motor.

Go for it!

I thought this had already been talked about and that the H6 would not fit in the impreza engine bay.

Um, a EJ flywheel will work when using a EJ tranny. Nothing new or special about that as the trannies are the same.

Hoever stick to a turbo EJ-25 or a WRX swap unless you have the money to PROPERLY chase this idea down.

This has been covered numerous times.
Problem with this issue:

Weight= bad handling
Auto= no fun
length= bye bye radiator fans= over heat
height= need fabricated intake (intake is a few inches higher)
and not that fast anyway
and scarce.
So the best thing to do is stick with a turbo. You can probably get more HP out of a turbo EJ20 or EJ25 than a na H6

You CAN run the H6 with a Stick, and why not turbo it while you are at it.
