Wiring 2 JL Audio subs??
Okay guys need some advice again. I am about to purchase 2 JL audio subs. I need the 8" for the subee-sound enclosers. I was looking at the w3 line of subs.
I currently have a PPI PC2150 (150x2 at 4 ohms, 300x2 at 2 ohms, and 600x1 at 4 ohms briged mono )that I like to use with the subs. Most seem to say that you should run subs in mono. 600 RMS watts will probably be WAY to much power for those poor JLs. The W3 recommend 125 watts. What should I do? Should I get the 2 ohm version and wire them up so each one is 4 ohms, and run them in stereo to each channel of my amp? OR??? Looking for suggestions here, and what ohm speakers I should be getting. Maybe my amp is too big for these subs??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jay Boudreau

You can get the 4ohm and run them stereo. That will keep the power matched and keep the distortion level down by running it stereo. Plus it will keep the curent draw lower and the amp will run cooler. Remember, it's always better to have to much power than not enough.

To much power? Is there such a thing? If so I haven't found it.

Like they said. Power is not a problem. I'm running almost 300watts RMS off my PH30.2 to my JL 10w1. The nominal on that thing is about 130watts. I currently have the gain about 1/5th up on the amp, but have taken it as high as half with out any issues. I do occasionally listen to my system loud, and there is no distortion. It's very smooth. Your 8w3's will be fine. Just take the time to adjust the gain properly.

With the PPI amp I don't think you will have a problem with distortion running it mono.
I think the reason people say run these in mono is to make sure you don't get wave diffusion. Since the two woofers will be facing each other you need to make sure the same sound is coming out of both speakers in order to effectively make realistic bass. Personally I would buy the 4ohm models since it looks like you adequete power to push them at that resistence. This should sound very nice. Brad |
