Yep good summary. If you go the route of trimming the fenders they'll definitely allow you to squeeze some extra tire under there. I think jimbo and I both eventually came to the conclusion that they look better body colored.

I wanna do the mod so badly but it'll look stupid without fitting wheels.
I just want a more aggressive style for the head view.
And its my favorite mod, because it flows better with the lines and forms of the wagon than a sedan front end swap.

Lol I never got to install mines. I had two other projects to finish.

jimbosv650 don't you think it would look better if you used front flares for the rears too ?

Hmm probably would look better because they could go all the way down in the back and look even with the fronts.

Serkan you started all of this craziness almost exactly one year ago.

There's no way in hell that I could afford $650 on flares plus another $x on bodywork. Not to mention proper wheels and tires to fill those flares. Wish I could...

Would 10x18 +25 or Rims like that fit with the golf flares?

I think you can fit 18x10 +25 with some camber in the fronts. Not sure about rears.

Ok. Thanks.
The rims would stick out abou 4 cm in the front.
The flares are 3 cm wide... Would fit I guess.

Yup that's where camber comes in. Don't recall the wheel specs, but Mechatricity is running 255's.

Yeah in the front you could make it work, but the rear would be a challenge. 255/40/17x9 +35 required trimming as much material as i could out of the rear flares (they have a small lip on the inside edge). Strut clearance is my biggest issue right now, i can't go much lower then -0.5* in the rear. Ultimately you'd really need camber plates to solve that problem.

Scrapping this project and going another route. I have 2 sets of these flares, if anyone is interested shoot me a PM.

EDIT: These are sold. Thanks for all of the PM's!

255 in federal tire is technically 265 right? I always heard Feds measure one size lower than actual spec

mechatricity (or anyone else that has done this, for that matter), do you have any pics with the flares on your stock wheels?
I am really digging the look of the flares, but fear the stock wheel setup will leave the wheels way too sunken in once the flares are installed

Uh yeah....it looks extremely stupid.

They HAVE to be run with wide wheels. Otherwise, what would be the point.

Spacers could be an option

I am still at the process of building the gd sedan, so I haven't gotten to the body work yet. But I bought an 02 impreza wagon as a winter beater.

Since I had extra set of these flares I wanted to try them on the wagon.

The fitment couldn't be better. They stay on the arches flush with only 3 screws.

If you are going with wide wheels you will have to cut your wheel arches (~ 1.5") and maybe pull the remaining (fender roller) to make room behind the flares for the tires.

These fender flares needed very little trimming. I will take pics of what needs to be trimmed when I do the other side.

I didn't get mines from this website but this could be a source to buy them :
