Default wiring defi BF to dimmers

anyone have any idea what wire to splice behind the harzard switch? is it just the same white one as the clock? i'm thinking it's definately a different one but i'm not sure... i just want the gauges to dim with the gauge cluster switch. much easier than using the control unit... well just cause i'm lazy

i dont think thats possible.
the gauges can dim with the headlights, thats it...
you set day/night on the control unit.
do you lights go bright/dim when you turn the headlights on?

ok, not to be rude, but the STi has illumination levels... there are five of them. they're located on the blinker lever. it's a switch that turns on the lever itself... explaining this right?? anyway, when you adjust the 5 levels of brightness for the gauge cluster the hazard light changes as well. soooo i figure if that little bastard can change 5 different levels... then so can my defi BF gauges... that have five different illumination levels, which are usually adjusted by pressing the right or left arrows on the control unit. i know this can be done, just wondering if i'm the pioneer in making this adjustment or if anyone has useful information...

Does the stereo illumination change when you adjust your knob? If so just splice into the stereo illumination wire.

I'm about to put the BF Turbo and CU-II in my Forester tomorrow, and that was my plan.

yes the stereo light does dim... but i dunno which wire it is that makes it dim... the CUII actually has a dimming wire... i think this is what sneeky is talking about... when i dim the guage clusters i find that just about everything dimms also ...

You could go to your local stereo shop and look at a stereo wiring harness adapter. That will tell you which wire is the 'illumination' wire.

I think the CUII illumination wire just looks for an on/off signal to toggle between night and day levels. Might not be able to dim with your dimmer switch. Worth a try though.

I just put my BF Turbo meter in my Forester and really love it! Makes me want more meters, but the car is stock so I need and exhaust and other goodies first.

I am not possitive on this but the dimmer switch would regulate voltage. The clock should have three wires I think. 1)12v for clock itself, 2)ground, 3)illumination. Using a multimeter and playing with the dimmer switch you should be able to find the illumination wire.
Hope that helps

The dimmer circuitry in the entire dash uses two wires to complete the circuit. One turns on and off with the parking lights and the other ranges in voltage from near ground to near +12v to make the lights bright and dim respectively.

If you can tell us more about how the Defi BF gauges' lighting wiring is, I can help you figure it out. See this page:
