Hard to believe these wires apparently barely get by at 65w. I have a space heater that I run for an hour or more sometimes with wires not much thicker, it pulls 1500w from the wall (AC but still) and the wire barely gets to body temperature.

**** that. Hopefully I can just get the connector because I am not trying to buy the entire thing

Yeah just look up h11 connectors on amazon or ebay, they're pretty cheap

Could I just buy the H9 connector and then I wouldn't have to file down any tabs or anything and just splice that one in?

You know instead of buying an h11 like stock and then filing down the h9 bulb to fit

I wouldn't see why not, of course I'm not an electrician but they are both just 12 volt power right? As long as the wire is thick enough, just to be safe maybe put an inline fuse before the connector.

Okay. Well I just bought some cheap one from pep boys and crimped the wires together. Seems legit. Light turned on and seems alright for now.

My Phillips H9 bulbs burned out after about 15 months of use. I will replace them the with same. The life isn't great, but the output is worth it.

If you read in one of the other threads, my Philips H9 bulbs only lasted me 8 months. I do, however, drive a lot at night so I'm not overly surprised. Was hoping to get at least a year out of them. Even though I'll have to replace them more often, I'm going to continue using H9's bulbs because I really appreciate the extra light output.

I've had my H9's in for over a year now. No problems at all. Love them. I tried to put H11's back in, because that's the "proper" way of doing things, but there's a noticeable difference.

There was a recent sleet/snow blitz here in Northern NJ, I work about an hour from home on a normal day. During this storm event, my car was covered with ice, snow, salt, you name it. In the 3 hours it took me to get home, I burnt through about a gallon of window washer fluid.

Anyway, by the time I got home, my 2008 WRX headlights were about as bright as a two candles flickering in the wind.

I've never been happy about their brightness, when you add road salt, they become almost useless.

I found this thread, and bought the bulbs on Tuesday at Autozone. I used my dremel to wipe out the tab. Slyvania H9s..about $15 each. I put them in today because I had to drive home from south Jersey(130miles) tonight.

Holy crap! It's lit up light I've the brights on, but it's my low beams! They're aimed low...I had people actually lower their brights when coming at me on rt 206, meaning I wasn't blinding them but I could really see the road!

Let there be light!

holy hell is it taking forever to get the tab down in my Philips bulbs.

I'm thinking dremel time, which bit works best?

I used 107 Engraving Cutter because it was the only accessory that came with my Dremel that worked for the job. Jumped around a lot but got it done. My friend said he used 561 MultiPurpose Cutting Bit and said it was the one to use. I'm sure there are others that would work too.

I used the 100% transparent sylvania h9 bulbs and I didn't notice an increase in light or any slight color variance like other people are seeing. Judging by the before and after photo, they look more dim than the stock h11 bulbs. should I try the Phillips bulbs?
Also, I used a razor blade and it worked great to trim the tab.

So, do any of you with the h9 conversion ever get high beamed by on-coming traffic thinking you have your highs on? I've had h9 bulbs in my headlights for over 8 months now but just recently started getting high beamed by on coming traffic when I replaced my burnt out h9's with new ones. I'm using the same Philips h9s that I used before, but now I get high beamed at least 2 or 3 times a night. I never touched the height adjustments in the headlights nor do I have anything in my truck that would cause my headlights to be pointed upwards. They're definitely brighter than the H11's but I didn't think that they would blind other motorists.

Maybe your headlights need to be 're-aimed I've been using them for over a year on my 2012 WRX and have no issues blinding others

Jr0bb, are you talking about your Impreza or your truck? Most people think trucks have their highs on when they don't, so more lumens would exaggerate that perception.

When I first did H9 upgrade, I had adjusted my aim UP, because it was WAY too low from factory. I got beamed a few times and then adjusted it lower by a couple degrees.

You have more of a chance to glare someone because the H9 doesn't have that opaque part on top of the bulb, that helps with glare apparently. That means you have to pay extra careful attention to your beam aim. Just get up to a nice flat, level white wall, about 20 feet away.. and use some tape to mark the top of the low beam that is projected onto the wall from your low-beams. There a very pronounced horizontal cut-off.

Now adjust it so that the beam is a few inches lower on each side, but still even with each other. Now try out the lights. If it is too low, you will know.. these lights need to be aimed perfectly to get the best out of them, even with the upgrade. There is a sweet spot where they work great, and you will never get beamed from other drivers.

Just make sure to do the adjustment with a full tank of gas, and maybe some weight in the trunk and in back seat if you usually carry stuff/ have passengers.

When adjusted perfectly, your high beams work great too..

My truck lol? You must be thinking of someone else. I would like to own a truck someday as a second vehicle. Maybe when the Impreza is paid off if I decide to keep it.

Just did this conversion using Philips H9 bulbs. Definitely a noticeable difference versus the OEM H11s. Much brighter and whiter. Also replaced the high beams with Philips HIR1 9011s!

^^I would disconnect the DRLs or else those HIR1s aren't gonna last too long. Happened to me after several months

Do you have a light comparison on the 9011s. This is on my list, if the light is way better(I split, baked and painted my lights and did the high bowls too dark) .

Also why discount the drls?

I did compare both the low and high beams versus stock after I finished one side of the headlights, but unfortunately I did not take any before/after pics. However, I can attest that the HIR 9011s throw a lot more light down stream and are definitely worth the upgrade. They're also easier to modify than the H9s in my opinion.

The reason the previous poster suggested disabling DRLs is because they run the high beams at a lower wattage, which can lead to the filament burning out faster.
