IPD Adjustable Sway bar, Alloy End link and Heavy Duty Mount Kit - review/install
hey gang.
Upgraded my suspension yet again... think i found the 'suspension value meal" so I thought i'd share my findings This is on my 01 RS... but the rear bar I installed will fit ANY Impreza with a rear bar in place - except STi. (YES it fits wrx, ts, rs, obs 1993 - on) so.... as we know, upgrading the rear sway on any Impreza will help to create a more balanced handling - and basically eliminates that 'push' aka Understeer felt when cornering. For the past few years i've had an 18mm rear FHI bar on my RS - the front bar is 19mm - and the OE rear bar was originally 13mm. Adding the 18mm rear bar was NICE - created a fairly neutral car. But i was still on stock Sway bar mounts and stock end links. As my RS is not longer a rally mobile, and is now a street/tarmac car, I thought i'd be nice to upgrade the rear mounts n end links and try maybe a slightly bigger bar. Anyways, what i got with the kit was: *19-23mm adjustable rear bar, solid. very beefy *Urethane Bushings for the bar *Solid alloy endlinks w/urethane bushings *massive sway bar mounts (never seen anything quite like them) *all hardware Photo of the mount + sway bar bushing Photo of stock OE mount / bushing Basically, install was a cinch except for one glitch - the sway bar mount on the passenger side. It was really a tough one to access and remove. That sucker is pinned up and underneath the charcoal canister and the fuel filler lines... 2 things you do not want to break or puncture!!! Removed the bolt holding the charcoal canister in place, slid the old mount out and the new one in... but the 2nd bolt, the one hidden under the fuel filler lines... was a real pain in the arse. You're gonna need 2 people to install / remove this bolt...What I did was have a 2nd person take a large pry bar and pried GENTLY against the filler lines enough to expose the bolt. Only then was I able to get a socket on it and remove the bolt. I had to have help to get the new mount back into place as well - same deal.. pry GENTLY against the fuel filler lines, get the bolt lined up and back into place.... photo of the mount/bushing installed: More photos, installation run down <here> All in all, considering i got the bar, bushes, heavy duty mounts AND alloy end links in one package... this is a hell of a value. Been driving on it a couple days now... car handles great! (have it set on 21mm currently) shout with any questions cheers Jamie www.subiegal.com

IPD has been making rear sways for Volvos (and trucks and buses) for years. They've gotten pretty damn good at it. I would expect no less than quality stuff from them.

a few of the photos i took last night came out not-so-good I'll try again this afternoon after work to get some crisp shots the endlinks are alloy & very beefy - i'm seriously impressed with them, especially as all comes as one kit - hardware included - keeps it simple no need to order from 3 different places you can get a glimpse of them in this shot but i will get close-ups Jamie www.subiegal.com |

Thanks for the nice pictures. I have a 2004 STi and got the iPD anti-sway bar set for it (22mm front, 22/23/24 adjustable rear). Same beefy quality though the mount is slightly different. Just make sure you get the STi product and not the WRX one -- the rear bar length is different.
Now if they'd just get together with PDE to make over-engineered and solid products that weighed hardly anything as well! |

you know, all it would take for that one bolt is to undo the three screws on the filler, then it swings out of the way.
