Question What/how many book(s) are you in the middle of right now?

I have a bad habit of putting a book down halfway through, getting distracted, and picking up a new book. So I'm currently in the middle of 5 books.

Just started Voltaire's Candide this morning, intend to finish it and give it back to my g/f by the end of the week.

Otherwise, in the middle of:

Democracy In America, Alexis de Tocqueville -- I've made two starts on this book. I just wanna read it because it's a seminal PoliSci work, and also because I think it'll give me some good background material on:

Rise To Globalism: American Foreign Policy Since 1938, D. Brinkley and S. Ambrose. Interesting read, at least as far as I've gotten.

Collected Stories, Franz Kafka. I guess I'm just *between* short stories now.

A Tour Of The Calculus, David Berlinski. I like teh mafs.

Waiting to start on The End Of History And The Last Man, by Francis Fukuyama, and Psychology And Western Religion by Karl Jung.

Lots of dry non-fiction, maybe that's why I get distracted halfway through.

How bout you?

I finally finished "The Origin of Species" (I had read about 95% of it, but took a detour) and started reading "The Selfish Gene" by Richard Dawkins last night. I remember throwing it across the first time I read it, gonna try and stick it out this time.

Most of the way through Dan Brown's Deception Point, I picked it up for my hourly train commute. Not bad.

I'm still in the middle of Bill Bryson's Neither Here no There: Travels in Europe. I'll get back to it when I'm finished with Deception Point. I was rereading it anyway, so it's not like I'm missing anything.

Right now I'm reading Going Faster! Mastering the Art of Race Driving. Up next (or maybe before I finish this one) is The Naked Ape : A Zoologist's Study of the Human Animal by Desmond Morris.

I'm reading the 'Left Behind' series right now. It goes against my (lack od) beliefs to read christian fiction, but irt has been quite a good read so far, a little preachy in places, though. currently on book no. 3, 'Nicolae'.

Actively reading Proust's "The Fugitive" at the moment. Almost finally done with that. Also mid-way through "La Morte d'Arthur", a collection of stories from some other french author, and have some other random collection of short stories from "great" 19th century authors hanging around somewhere.

"War and Peace" is next up on the queue... then maybe I'll have a stab at Ulysses again

Speaking of...

I gotta pick up a few travel guides for London, since it's been almost 7 years since I've been. I also have To Kill a Mockingbird on deck, since I only read it once and loved it.

Maybe I'll re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-reread the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The amount of "re's" is accurate of how many times I've read it.

He's decent, like James Patterson. He's entertaining enough, and it kills time.

Ugh. Desmond Morris is a lameass. Read "How the Mind Works" by Stephen Pinker instead.

just finished reading 1984 for the second time.. pretty freaky book now that i'm a little older than the first time i read it... of course it scared the **** out of me then, too..

now i'm in the middle of:

A Brief History of Time - S. Hawking ..so far so good.. pretty easy to follow and not overly technical or anything..

The Five People You Meet in Heaven - Mitch Albom ..pretty cool book, haven't picked it up in a week or so though.. gonna have to find it tonight

Was it you that was recommending a book with "Wallflower" in the title? I forget the actual name of the book...

I'm also being pushed by my girl to read His Dark Materials. It's good to have such a bookworm as a girlfriend, because I get off my lazy ass and get around to reading stuff.
