Talking Park City high speed cruise

On Saturday, me, Yaniv, and our infamous Acura racer went to Park City for a meet with the Hope Foundation. It was a bunch of rich people (mostly CEO's of Fortune 500 companies) and their cars. The day started out meeting at the Canyons ski resort. There was 2 Diablo SV's, a Diablo VT, a few Vipers (including a limited edition Daytona racer clone), a 911 Turbo S, another 911 Turbo, a Bizzarinni, Jaguar E-Type, Lingenfelter twin turbo Corvette, Dino Ferrari, 512 TR, a beautiful old Ferrari Lemans car, and of course many others. We all drove with a highway patrol escort to the Silver Mine to take pictures. Then we all went to lunch and met at the park afterwards. We then had a Highway Patrol escort down I-80 toward Echo. Let me tell you, the sweetest sound I have ever heard close up was driving down the freeway doing 120 mph next to a Diablo SV and the guy downshifted and punched it. The sound sent chills through my whole body. When we passed Echo, we took the next exit which leads to a road that heads back into Echo. The Highway Patrol blocked off about a 2 mile stretch of the road so that we could do high speed runs. The road had a chicane in it that you couldn't do over about 120 through, followed by a right hander that 130 is about max, then the straight for about 1/2 mile before the radar gun. It was so fun standing next to the road while a Viper flew by at over 170 mph just 15 feet away. All the cars made runs except for the Bizzarini, me, and the Lemans Ferrari (his tire went flat on the way out there). The fastest was one of the Vipers at 171, next was a 911 Turbo at 169, then another Viper at 168. After the high speed runs were done we all drove back to town well over 100 mph through a very twisty section of I-80. So much fun.

I didn't run because since we were not rich, we got stuck at the back of the pack and so it was either watch the fast cars run or run myself. I decided it would be a lot more fun to be where the action is rather than waiting in line to make a 120 mph run. I do that damn near every day, why do I want to miss the fun and wait in line just to do it?

Well, Yanniv got to drive the limited edition purple Diablo with the all carbon fiber interior. It only had 1500 miles on it and he got to drive it for about 20 miles.

The reason the Highway Patrol was OK with it is because it was all for their own charity. I am sure they made a whole cheese-load of dough off of this little outing. It was great how excited the 512 TR driver was getting just from being able to go that fast by cops.

The race this weekend was OK. The course was a total power course. The top 20 PAX (out of just 60 cars) was 1 BMW, 1 Miata, and 18 Corvettes, Camaros, and RX-7's. But it was fun anyway. Just barely beat Calvin who was co-driving my car. Got him by 0.068 the first day and about 0.4 the second day.

Billy is gone now, he came and raced today, but is off to college in Michigan now. He is leaving his car here the whole time he is in college though, so we need to talk his dad into racing.

that would be great to see billy's dad out at the races. i would need to be at the races myself of course to see him there

any one know of any really cheap imprezas? really cheap for me being any where from free to $3500. i found one red '93 awd wagon with 128,000 miles for $3995.00 here in slc but nothing other than that.

mmm...wagon-tastic.

You could even swap in mini's 1.8 to freshen it up a bit...not!

That sounds like a pretty good deal for an awd Impreza...

Legacy turbo for sale in GA, but they want $6K for it.....otherwise I'm in a Sube desert down here. I see more Jaguars, AMG Mercs, Porche's, etc in one day than I've seen of Subes since I moved here.

I leave for Tokyo on Thursday...

If it's an early AWD Impreza, you might as well get it for that price. It might not be a looker, but you can do anything with it. Door dings? You've been in "pretty-car" land too long bud!

C'mon over to the dinged up wagon clique

Oh, and it's really hard to find EJ22Ts for less than $1500, but it has been done!

yes it has by our good friend from florida. the one primitive has lists at 1950.
i know it would be quite an improvement though. i was amazed at how much slower the 1.8 awd was then my car or even the 1.8 fwd.
now i know your former pain alan

see why I was amazed that I could get within 4-5 seconds of you guys auto-xing. No torque with the 1.8 motor. At least you know you would be getting a good motor from Primitive, but $1950.

yeah i'm amazed too, you would have lost that time just at the start from the way the car i drove felt
1950.00 seems like to much to me also. i'm going to check into an ej20t from japan that is supposed to be around 895.00 i'm just wondering how complete it is.
