Default Semi consistant piston slap

I've got what I think is semi regular piston slap on start up, usually lasting just 1 or two seconds after the engine first turns over, but it seems like it's usually louder when the engine is cold. I'm kind of concerned that it seems to be doing it when the motor really hasn't sat all that long either, maybe an hour or two. Is this something to be really concerned about? It's an 05 WRX with about 125,000 on it. Combined with my oil consumption issue, could this mean the pistons are pretty much shot?

I used conventional 5w30 then 10w40 when I first got it, only did a few thousand miles though and switched to rotella t6 so hopefully I didn't do screw anything up but it wasn't very long. It's consumed oil throughout though, I'm about to have the PCV valve replaced (it was a little clogged, got it kind of cleaned though). I can post a video sometime, it basically sounds like an old diesel for a couple seconds after it turns over, before the revs come down. Usually it's just the first start of the day or after a long sit but it hasn't been cold at all and it's doing it on 90 degree days, so I'm really worried what it's going to be like when winter comes around.

My 04 wrx has piston slap on cold starts in the morning, last about a minute then goes away. Does it every morning and has been as long as i can remember. Not really worried about it anymore lol.

^ Same here. Try compression/leakdown test will probably ease your mine a lil. I got a brand shortblock last winter and it pretty much slap on every cold start and still does it in summer. Just nature of the beast.

I was thinking about that but it's not like I have any money to fix anything that is wrong so meh... As long as it ways til it's paid off before it blows up.

I have an 05 WRX with 115K km and does the exact same thing for a second or two after a cold start. warm starts...no noise.
