You might have to search this thread but I'm pretty sure there are a few diagrams for EWG's and another few diagrams using GM BCS's.
I believe that the hybrid hookup pattern for an EWG is the same as an internal gate actuator in respect to the MBC and EBCS, the only difference of the overall setup is where the hose from the output nipples of the MBC and EBCS go and the tune. Just remember, you're running a manual boost controller and electronic 3 port controller in parallel. You're splitting the hose from the compressor outlet fitting/nipple and running it to both the input nipple on the MBC and on the EBCS. You're also merging the hoses coming from the output nipples of the MBC and EBCS to a single hose going to wherever the waste-gate actuator is. |

This duel boost safety is not a good reason. Out of all the cars I have tuned. only seen 1 EBC failure. Which didn't work right out of the box and have had zero MBC failures. I have had both EBC and MBC not work so well but only the 1 hard failure. Drivability with the hybrid is great but you can learn to drive "normal" with even a MBC. My over all assessment is it's a waste of $100.00 if you ask me |

I don't think you really want that line that runs parallel to the MBC in the "thinking this is right" drawing. That line basically just circumvents the MBC, so it no longer plays any role in the system.
I don't know how you'd make an MBC work with a BCS and a dual-port actuator... I'm not saying there isn't a way, though. And I hope there is because I really like the hybrid setup and I want to try tuning with a dual-port actuator. I hope someone figures it out for me before Perrin releases their dual-port IWG actuator. |

you're free to use whatever parts you want on your car, and not every mod/solution works for everyone, but let's be clear: a hybrid setup was a waste of YOUR $100.
by contrast, MY $30 has been working with 100% reliability for 8 years. |

agree to disagree I guess. I used the $30.00 boost controller and spent hours trouble shooting and fixing it before I just threw it away. That was easily more than $100.00 in my labor wasted.

most people think soldering is easy.
you can tell who those people are by the ****ty solder joints. there's never enough time to do it right, but there's always enough time to do it again! |

It wasn't my solder joints where it would break. it was the actual wire where it went into the solenoid. The shielding didn't even go all the way in. You could move the wire back and forth and see exposed wires. The GS has a rubber grommet where the wires meet the solenoid that prevents this. It's just a poor design on their part. I believe I have seen some later models where the used a different wire harness to fix that issue.
I am far from a novice when it comes to any car skills. |

look. i bought a $30 dollar part, soldered two wires to it, squirted some RTV sealant into the plug around those joints, and crimped two fully insulated quick connects to those two wires. i then cut the plug off my oem bcs harness, crimped two mating quick connects to those two wires, smeared some dielectric grease on them, and plugged in the solenoid. finally i bolted the gm solenoid to the car through an oem rubber bushing, pushed on the hoses and zip tied them.... ... and haven't touched a single thing in 8 years. now, you seemed to have an issue with the wiring to your solenoid. in my case, i pulled my wires from a scrap heap, made my own pigtail, and never had an issue. you want to shrug it off and blame the solenoid, that's fine. i know better. |

1) Is everyone tapering down their boost from, say, 5500 or 6000 on? That is, kicking the EBCS back in above these RPMs? I'm sure it depends on the turbo.
2) What happens on a smaller turbo if you don't taper down? Obviously it stops being able to produce the boost, but other than that, does it hurt anything? It might maintain the boost but be highly inefficient...I guess that would be bad (affect EGTs, etc.). 3) Last, does anyone have a map they can post (hex file, etc.)? |

Ken, you have to understand, some people are either too lazy and/or incompetent to undertake simple tasks such as these. To each his/her own. I enjoyed saving the $100 and using an OEM part. |

I have a new turbo - 18g-xt. Been dialing in closed loop fueling for a WHILE. Boost though, took me 5 min to dial in.
However, as per another post way back where a guy with a 10cm^2 22g wanted to improve spool used the OEM EBCS to bleed away pressure from the MBC in 1st and 2nd gears, I decided to play around with having the 3rd port in my 3port ebcs uncapped. I get quicker spool for sure, but 1-3 psi of overboost for a second. No knock, just more torque and less accuracy with the MBC setting. Turbo dynamics comes into play to dial down boost during that spike then it's rock solid. If I figure out a way to prevent the overshoot but achieve the higher boost in 1st and 2nd I'll post. I'm hitting 18psi in 2nd from a roll which is awesome. Could be the turbo though... |
