Not the laser cut ones, only the older style.

That's what it seems like. My dealer doesn't cut keys, but others have had better luck. I just searched google for a local locksmith who does laser cut keys.

When you program the remote, the lock/unlock sequence at the end is the confirmation, it will beep either way, but if you don't get the lock/unlock it failed. You'll know you are doing it right when you have tried 4 times and un-programmed your other remotes ;-)

Also be patient, the remote sometimes doesn't work the first couple presses for whatever reason, then it starts working. Make sure to turn the ignition off and remove the key before you try the successfully programmed remote.

If you have done all that you might just have a bad remote. I might be inclined to tell the dealer it didn't work on your "Legacy" and see if they will then take it back. Get a VIN from a local or grab one from EBay if they ask.
So I went to the dealer and they checked the remote battery for me, the remote is giving out a strong signal and should be working. Only thing I can think of is :

1. This does not work on Canadian Cars
2. The white sticker / sticker hooked onto the Legacy Key both have the wrong programming code for this remote. (Highly unlikely?)

Anybody out there with a 2012 Canadian WRX able to successfully program the key? Or do I need to buy a Canadian Legacy key?

As for returning the key, I don't know if I can. The guy at Chaplins knows I own the WRX (from the VIN ). Unless I can somehow take it to other dealerships or talk to some other Internet parts guy from Chaplins...

Huh yeah this is weird I'd have to say the key is probably good. Still waiting for another Canadian to chime in...

What is the FCCID on your stock teardrop?

I just read a post from you over at 3gwrx and went onto http://transition.fcc.gov/oet/ea/fccid/
to check the FCCID.

To my surprise, my stock teardrop remote has a FCCID of NHVWB1U711 which gives a transmitter frequency of 433.92 MHz.
The 2011 Legacy Key with FCCID CWTWB1U811 has a transmitter frequency of 315 MHz!!!

What is the US Spec teardrop remote's FCCID?

Edit: After reading your whole thread between you and bjkeed21, it looks like the Canadian cars never got the newer remotes. We don't have TPMS, so maybe we never got the upgrade. Can this still be done without changing the keyless unit itself inside the car?

Update:

If anyone needs a brand new 2011 Legacy Key, please PM me. I purchased it new from Subaru Geniune Parts but I doesn't work on my car as I am from Canada.

There are some pretty silly restrictions on new users (I realize they combat spammers) so I can't email you yet. I will try to PM you.

I finally finished my key! Maybe xluben can update his original post for us up North.

For Canadians:
Our cars never got the TPMS in them (as of 2012 WRX) and therefore the remotes have not changed in the 2011+ models. You need to buy a 2012 CANADIAN Legacy key! The US vs CAN remotes run on different frequencies so they won't work with each other.
