1999 2.5RS MAF issues. What intake should I get?
1999 2.5Rs MAF issues.
I've failed several MAF sensors with my Weapon R intake. It was on the car when I bought it but it's time to upgrade. I want to get one that won't fail my MAF sensor though. I'm pretty broke though so it's gotta be $200-300 bucks tops. Unless I can keep the Weapon R and get an adapter??? ALSO... are there any diagrams or pics that show where my knock sensor is located. I think it's on the back of the block but my car's not here to look right now. Thanks people!!! - Justin

Bah.. I've heard bad things on Weapon-R intakes, even though they sent me an e-mail saying it would be fine (how predictable).
Injen has a good one, check it out. |

aftermarket intakes have been dyno proven you gain nothing, you will get more power by smoothing out your stock intake and doing a gansflow style intake.
do a search on RS25.com and you will see |

basically I've removed my snorkel and removed my air box with a K&N cone filter...stock tubing with rubber ribs...but better free flowing to throttle body..thats about all I'd recommend...invest in a P6 from Rallitek you'll be very pleased with an Electric tune than bolt on tune of the intake..or free flowing heads and cat...with any really good cat-back exhaust. Your engine actually comes with one of the best intake manifolds between the three. So many people swap the N/A intake manifold and replace the turbo manifold.

I would say the it's the WR filter and not the intake as a whole. The 99 has a weaksauce "hot film" MAF instead of the more robust "hot wire" MAF and is very easily screwed up. The filter that comes with a WR intake is junk. Replace it with a good cone filter, never-ever-ever over oil it, and your MAF should last longer.

Maybe you should just do the snorkus delete mod and do a K&N filter.
You'll get the sound and maybe 1 or 2 hp. |

I'd go with the AEM or another decent dry element filter to avoid the risk of over oiling. Absolutely trash that crap Weapon-R filter. |

Counter you know that answer why ask me..yeah it does disrupt flow or air turbulance...a custom tubing to throttle body will work just aswell if not better...but lol I wasn't bragging about my tubing with ribs..I was just stating that its got the stock tubing with air box removed...o yeah you wanna make some type of metal step attached to the filter to the wheel fender or strut bolt..it shakes and clanks when you start the car or when reversing...not so much in forward motion. I've got a quarter size rub of the metal because i didn't do it to begin with.
