Great turbo, a little large for daily driving imo. will need at least 850 cc injectors, larger fuel pump, larger topmount or a frontmount intercooler, larger intake possibly. Forged pistons are recommended for this power level imo.......do it now or fix it later when she breaks....your choice.
I run straight meth inj w 93 pump on mine. Putting out anywhere btwn 390 and 415 hp depending on temp and dyno. Going on 4 yrs w mine Good luck |

For a Dom 3 you will have to go FMIC, TMIC will not do for that application. I would suggest calling Mike at Blouch Turbo, he is a great guy and will help you with any question you may have.

This is not true. I run a larger top mount + 100% meth just fine for the past 4 yrs. I would agree that a frontmount would be more ideal for this size turbo but not the only option.

I realize that as I run a Spearco TMIC as well on my built motor, but ideally a FMIC is the way to go, but as mentioned, not the only option, but a better one.

What other turbos are you looking at that compare? I'm kind of in the same boat as you I can't decided which turbo would go and my build is pretty similar to yours |

I own a Dom3xtr and though I am happy with it, I have a fully built longblock and cams so its in my rpm range. It spools quicky for a non-twin scroll 30-35r ish. And I like the turbo but I did have a problem with Blouch. I noticed oil consumption and then had the turbo taken off to find carbon build up down the downpipe and in the exhaust housing. Then shop stated serious shaft play (back and forth direction). They charged me $700+ to replace the billet CHRA (center housing). So I have mixed emotions yet it works great now. Also, before rebuild when I would turn off car I could hear the turbine spinning/winding down with a harsh sound and now its rebuilt it still spins/winds down but much quieter and not so harsh sounding. Lastly running it on a stock bottom may work, but for how long? If you don't plan on doing a built motor down the road I would say this is the wrong turbo, personally. But if you are looking into the those options eventually then I say its a great turbo. Thats my :2cents: Last edited by DerickRyoung; 01-29-2013 at 03:46 AM. |

Cant really give any input yet as ive had my car for a month and it has summer tires on it..
05 STi unknown if engine is built(assuming stock) Dom3 APS 725 FMIC TDC 816cc injectors(custom, getting new ones come spring most likely) 255lph Stock headers and u-p, 4in turboxs dp-invidia Race had it retuned safely for 20psi, tuner says its putting about 374whp down. With that said, the guy who tuned my car, and quite a few of friends all agree its a great turbo for a stock engine. Ive read 400whp is the turning point where your going to wanna consider a spare engine, or building your current engine. Overkill is better than no car. |

I'm looking at a 2.5XTR for my STi. Motors not built yet, the plan is to talk my wife into a WRX/STi that way as I upgrade, her car will get the hand-me-downs. She's pretty psyched about it.

I just got mine installed. Will be getting it tuned Thursday on e85. I have a front mount. I'm on a hybrid with cams. On my initial tune with 18 lbs of boost I made 300. Should be at 400 with the e85 and 340 Ish on 91. The torque curve is steep. Of boost it runs great. It does want to go part 7k rpm. I will post up my final numbers Thursday. I love this turbo though.
Top mount was selected for safety, and a built short block is in the works for the very near future. |

I am deffinatly aware of the engine and its fragile pistons. I am going into this set up knowing that ultimatly ill have to rebuild the engine. I also have a wrx with the 5spd so with longer gears it should be nice on the streets. I dont plan on running a hi psi tune all the time. But I will post numbers once we get an all wheel dyno in alaska..

You'll need to look into a transmission swap as well, or at least stronger gears in your 5 spd. You should budget at LEAST $10k for supporting mods in addition to the obvious (fuel, tune, etc.). That should cover your impending engine failure and blown transmission.

Yeah you guys are right but just like any build unless your super rich u build as u go. And once it happens ill address the problem with better parts.

At this point you're looking to pay more in drivetrain modifications to support that power than it would cost to sell your car and buy an STi, literally. You should seriously step back from the situation and reconsider if you want to go through with this on your current car versus selling it and buying an STi. |

I would take any of the FP's any day over the dom's... Just better all around turbos in my opinion. OP, as others have said, I hope you have deep pockets if you're doing this on an otherwise stock drivetrain. You're essentially turning your engine and trans into a ticking time bomb by doing this, even on a conservative street tune. Not to say that it can't or hasn't been done, but just be prepared for what is going to become a matter of time instead of "if".

Ultimately it seems the OP is aware of issues and plans on building the motor eventually, if so, then I would say this turbo has the capabilities to make the power he may desire. |

1) less than WRX drivetrain's breaking point 2) greater than #1, but less than STi drivetrain's breaking point 3) greater than #2 For #1, a WRX is fine. For #2, an STi is clearly the better choice. For #3, again a WRX is probably a better starting platform since you're going to have to swap out everything anyway. To me, it sounds like the OP fits into #2, but I could be wrong. |

i believe it is a 100% total waste of time to buy a wrx with the thought of highly modding it
if you are wanting to make more power than the 6mt will take then you are modding the wrong platform...or better be willing to spend $$$,$$$ and YES...that is 6 figures....unless you do ALL your own work and you'd still get yer ass handed to ya by a gtr with a few lil mods IMO....wanting to highly mod any subaru is a fools errand...they just arent a good platform for most to mod |
