There aren't too many 'other teams' with open seats. Hulk should have settled for a year at HRT if it guaranteed him getting back into a Williams in 2012.

No guarantees with Williams, he had a contract with Williams from 2000 (at least) to 2005 yet only drove for Williams in one of those years.

Nico Rosberg's new passport photo, http://plixi.com/p/57112914. Apparently he got stopped by the police on his way to the party after the race too.

So what are all the big changes for next year?. I listed the one below that I can think of but sure I'm missing some.
- KERS is back - Movable rear wing element - No double Diffusers (pretty sure they are gone) - Pirelli as tire supplier - India to host a race - F-Duct? (is still going to be in or not) Edit: Like the comment by Rubens in Abu Dhabi where he said there are going to be way too many buttons to push next year. With two movable wing elements and KERS, plus all the current knobs and dials. Also if the f-duct is still around it is going to be super busy. Last edited by John__Gotti; 11-15-2010 at 08:05 PM. |

F-duct is gone if I remember correctly.

I'm fairly sure Haryanto isn't 17. Even so, both Alex Rossi and Esteban Gutierrez tested for Sauber last year.

just posting to subscribe...I'm not thinking about 2011 until I see a new car roll out.
In the meantime I'll just post up my recommendations for what to read over the winter from my bookshelf. Last edited by Ferg; 11-15-2010 at 08:50 PM. |

yes, I am that bored right now Matchett's book might prove an interesting reread..when Red Bull came into the sport it felt like they had read Chariot Makers and decided to follow Steve's 'plan' on how to create a Formula One team step by step. Last edited by Ferg; 11-15-2010 at 09:20 PM. |

and I'm waiting for the 2010 edition to publish...funny they put out a temporary cover back in the summer for websites to advertise for pre-orders. Always cracks me up as each year they never seem to be able to predict the actual Champion. Last edited by Ferg; 11-15-2010 at 09:47 PM. |

What's even better is the drama with Italian Politicians calling for Luca De Montezemalo (sp) to step down from Ferrari because of one poor pitstop call. Sure it may have cost Fernando the world championship, but REALLY? Politicians? |

Out for 2011 are the f-ducts (blown rear wing), and the double diffuser. Back is the KERS system and active rear wing elements.
Active rear wings will not affect the cars in the same way the f-duct has but will serve a similar purpose. |

I just wanted to say that I hate KERS. Even though I am a Mclaren fan and their system was fantastic, its far too complicated and is even more distracting for the drivers. I would love to see a push-to-pass system (I think this was discussed during FP for Abu Dhabi on 5 live F1) sort of like in indy cars, which would show a counter for the number of uses remaining etc. Would make charges after a bad pit stop almost theatrically entertaining.
KERS will also set back (even further) the newer, poorer teams. Is there a change with qualifying now as well, where you have to be within 107% of the pole position time in order to actually participate in the race? If so, bai bai HRT! |

KERS is not more distracting to the driver than the F-duct that requires letting go of the steering wheel.

Its the managing of the energy of KERS which is an issue I think, the F duct is no big deal, drivers used to drive with one hand on the steering wheel quite often, when they had manual gearboxes. The F duct makes it even easier since its only used on straights and sweeping turns.

we never saw how competitive the Williams Hybrid flywheel system would have been in 2009 since they never raced with it, but it's been further developed by Porsche in their GT program...and could prove to be a technical march over the other teams. So maybe not quite bai bai HRT...assuming they secure funding, get a chassis sorted, and make it to the first race. Getting past the 107% barrier is way down their list of hurdles right now. The team that's got me wondering is Virgin. As yet no technical partnership like HRT and Lotus has secured and another season stuck with Xtrac's gearbox and hydraulics sidelining them half the time would prove difficult to endure...especially if it means Branson has to wear another flight attendant outfit. Has anyone looked back over 2010 and actually applied the 107% rule to quali? It would be interesting to see just how big an impact it wold have had on the new teams. I don't like the idea of a standardized KERS system...that feels like a publicity stunt so they can claim to be more "green" or whatever. Is KERS standardized or open for development next year? I can't recall. Dammit..now I'm thinking about 2011 instead of watching Hoarders. |
