News Anyone looking for a small side job for mod money?

For 2 years now, I've been working a side job that takes me one evening a week to do, it's nothing major, but makes for some nice "extra" cash for my pocket. I'm leaving the area, so I'm trying to find a replacement (it's a family friend that I'm working for.)

Basically, this lady does research for professionals, and quite often she finds articles in medical journals that she needs to get ahold of. The National Institute of Health (NIH) in Bethesda has a huuuge Library of Medicine, and while they will copy and mail articles that she needs, it's much more economical and faster to send a human being to fetch the articles. That's where I/you come in!

Basically, on thursday evenings I go after work, b/c they have longer hours that night. over the summer I go on Saturday mornings. link to Library hours The "main reading room" is the part you need to be open.

It takes me an hour from the time I arrive to when I leave the library to make all the requests, and copy the articles she needs. The library caps the number you can request at 14, and usually I have either 12 or 14 to pick up for her. She pays $4/article you acquire so ... on a good day it's $56 for an hour of work. not too bad.

Anyway, if you want more details or are interested.. post here or PM me and I'll tell ya anything else I know.

Which journals does she typically browse? Most journals are online nowadays w/ a subscription).

I'm at Hopkins Med, I can see if they have a subscription to whatever journals she reads.

some are, but the majority are not available online. it's not like she only needs current articles, and there are very few journals that are archived in their entirely online. Anyway, too many journals for me to possibly remember and name! Sometime I ever get to use the microfiche machine. Mmm, dated technology.

transportation isn't covered, so if you live far away it's probably not worth your while. It costs cash to pay for the copies, and $3.95 postage typically, those costs are reimbursed with your paycheck. (just make note of expenses on the list of articles you send)

Shadow, I'm leaving 8/30 so I should probably be at the next two B&N meets, but then that's it (till I get a holiday, at least)

Hey!... I'm interested. I live less than a mile away from the NIH. I could use the extra cash for just an hour of work. Can you PM with all the details?, or do you rather meet on Friday at B&N?.... let me know

Max
