Well, heading down to Orlando in a few hours, and playing 7am tomorrow at Disney's Palm. It will be the first time picking up a club since my last round many months ago. Super excited.

Good luck! If you're anything like me, you'll probably hit the ball better after taking a few months off

If you're going to get "fit" for a club, go to a real fitter and not a box store.

In MA/RI...
AceOfClubs in Saugus MA
Joe and Leighs in Braintree(ish) area
Spargo Golf in Cranston RI (Ranked top 100 club fitters)

You don't have to be good to go to get really fit.

I have a few goals for 2013:

Improved accuracy. My irons fly straight, but I can't seem to consistently hit a target.
Improved putting. It seems I lip a lot of holes, or miss entirely under 6 feet. If I can get out of a round in under 30 putts, I'll score a lot better.

How do I get there? I'm switching back to standard length clubs, am signed up for six hours of lessons, and have a players pass to a course near my house with a lot of $20 weekday rounds. I'd like to start tracking my hdcp and get it into the mid teens this year. That's going to take a lot of range time and practice at home too.

How long do you guys keep your clubs? I've had mine for almost ten years now. No desire to get new ones. Just curious. Though I do need a putter.

Going back to the course Sunday, haven't been in a few months due to the house purchase but I am ready to keep moving my score lower...so far lowest round has been 85...hope to get it to 80 flat in a month or so.

Before I got fitted and got new clubs last year I played the same set for 15 years. I probably shouldn't have been playing them at all, but I grew to become accustomed to them and never really liked the idea of changing my clubs. Still getting used to the new clubs but I plan on having them for a long, long time...

A lot of it depends on what your old set it. If it's an old set of Montgomery Ward Wilson's then maybe a change would be a good thing...

King Kobra something-or-others. Had them fit for me (I need an extra 1" of shaft).

My 1st set lasted about 10 years (Hogan Apex PC). Then I had a set of Cleveland TA5s for another 10-12 years. Then I got a set of TaylorMade Burner 2.0s and had them for 3. Then my current set (TM RBZ) I've had for a year and already looking for a new set.

At this rate/pattern, by the end of the year, I probably will go through 3 sets.

I'm actually waiting to hear back on something I have going on which may change my direction. If it doesn't happen, I'll be getting fit for new irons (TM RocketBladez Tours, Callaway XForged, or go off the deep end with NHat and get some TWs) in March and hope to have them last for 10-12 years again. But this woudl be my 1st set of irons I'm properly fit for.

Have you been fitted for clubs before? It's a good start to cutting strokes off your scores. Especially your putter.

Depends. If the grooves are still good and you play the clubs well, there's no reason to switch unless you want some new toys. New tech certainly helps, especially if you get fitted.

I've got 4 years on my current irons but I'm looking to buy a combination set this year. Finally at a point where I feel comfortable playing with a set of musclebacks in 7-PW.

The only club I haven't changed is my putter, which has been in my bag for 10 years.

I've been playing indoor golf weekly this winter. Keeps the muscles loose and in shape, but I'm afraid I'll pick up bad habits- you can't set the tee height properly and there's no way to take a divot. Plus, I finally have a nice controlled 20 yard chip down, but my head ends up in front of the camera and it most of the time it doesn't register.

I'd like to get my clubs fit, but I'm not sure who would be good around here.

All I know is that I can't wait for the snow to melt. Must play for real!

I went through this same dilemma about a year and half ago, Assomine. You may have no desire, but I bet they would help your game and you would feel just as comfortable with the new as you do with the old very quickly. Clubs have come a LONG way in 10 years.

I'm very close to being able to use off-the-shelf clubs without any issue, but I've had a couple of sets fitted and they've always worked out a little bit better. The ones I'm using now are Ping i10's (red dot - 1 degree flat lie & standard everything else), and I've been using them for about 5 years. No plans on changing them anytime soon. I love Ping irons

I picked up a TM RBZ 3W the other day for 80$ buck dollars. I got to use it a couple of times on Tuesday. It definitely sounds odd. But, it certainly did move the ball down course a long way. It'll probably be much better once I get used to it. Also a new cart (quattro) I'm hoping to walk alot more this year. I need to work off the winter twenty.
Also a Bobby Jones Hybrid. I used to see them on the golf channel (infomercial) all the time a few years ago. It was only $49 at rockbottomgolf. I might get a chance to use it tomorrow. It's the prettiest club I've ever seen.

True, but I won't notice a difference enough to justify spending almost a grand on the new Pings I want. I have a bathroom to remodel! But I'm gonna treat myself to either a new hybrid or a new gap wedge this year. Just joined a golf league that starts up in a couple months

In this area, I wouldn't doubt it

Is it a fixed hosel or does it have TM's FCT hosel?

You're remodeling a bathroom and people are ****ting in showers and into bags in the middle of the ocean

But yeah, definitely not necessary. I'd go with the GW. 100yds in is where shots are saved.

Agreed. My PW is 46* and my sand is *54. I have about a 15-20 yard gap between full shots which is probably too much

That's ideal if you only wanna carry 3 wedges. If you're going to carry 4 wedges, add a 56*. If you don't want to spend money on another wedge, bend your 54* to 56* if it's forged. You'll get some more bounce which is good because the majority of amateurs don't have enough bounce on their wedges.
