Looks like I wasn't the only one who likes red/blk! I went a bit more extreme than just the lip. They were for autox so I wasn't all about the quality since they'd get chipped anyway. I've since sold them off but seems like I should have posted these 2yrs ago when I actually did them.

^^^props for something different. waaaay different.

I had to look at it for a bit to decide if I liked 'em or not. I think standing still I don't like 'em. but in the autox pictures I think they look great.

With clear coat, they should come out looking very close to the cap color in the pic above.

Well, this was going good, then it got cold on me

I had 3 wheels done perfect and one I wanted to touch up.

2 were cleared and 2 were not...

The two cleared ones look like this:

I went to clear the other two a few days ago, and again tonight, and ended up with this:

Now I have to strip these two again, and respray primer/color/clear

Guess I have to bring them inside between coats to keep them warm eventhough the paint specifies 50-90F as a working temp, and it's 60F out...

The clear coat also lightens up the finish color...the non-clear color was much much closer to the cap color pictured above.

What was your method for painting these wheels? Did you spray them black, tape off the face and then respray with red? I like them a lot.

Makes me wish I never sold my RS wheels. 16" tires are so much cheaper and would make a better wheel to use snows or drag tires then my current 17s. Sucks to because I sold them to a friend and I see him quite a few times a week so I get reminded all the time.

I jsut finished a set of BBS's for my winter set up. One had some curb rash so I fixed that:

Then stripped them:

Prime with self ethching primer:

Then painted :

Then mounted them on the car:

I did a lot of sanding and prepping in between coats and for my first set I think they came out ok. I'm going to redo them next summer, and maybe go with a darker color.

Looks like you used acrylic clear on a lacquer base color, or the other way around. Get a clear that is the same (lacquer or acrylic) as your base color and you'll be good to go!!

After reading this thread I decided to do it too and the result is great
very cheap project, it cost me $115.00 for the whole thing

set of stock wheels and tires=$100.00
sand paper and paint=$15.00

I used 4x colorplace gold purchased at walmart

here is the result

It actually might be cool to try it with a different color combination - like two similar colors that are a bit off (like black and grey)... etc. Good job.

Hello,

please mount these asap and throw 'em on your car. looks good! I like how that turned out. How many coats did you use? it seems like it came out lighter than the others that used duplicolor gold.

Yeah, I think my duplicolor gold wheels are in this thread somewhere, but I wasn't happy with the shade of gold. They are too dark. I'm getting ready to respray them though. I want something a little closer to the glod BBS's.

I also thought they were a bit too dark, but after about the first 15 minutes, it grew on me and i love them!

I wouldn't mind a lighter shade though

Does duplicolor also have a white wheel paint? So far I have only seen one with white stock wheels. Anyone have pictures of any more? Maybe paired with WRB?

I also didn't use the white primer. I actually didn't use any primer when i did them. I was in a hurry. Now I'm going to put these tires on for the winter but I don't know if I'm going to use my gold stockers that are chipped up from gravel or try to straighten my silver stockers.
