Default 2012 Impreza Sport firewall grommet ?

I am adding an amplifier and running a 4 gauge power wire through the firewall. I found a rubber plug/grommet next to the brake booster that looks like it's unused but I can't find it on the cabin side as I think floor insulation covers it. Has anyone used this plug/grommet for an amplifier power wire feed through the firewall? See photo with red circle around the plug/grommet. Thanks...!

A lot of times there is a perforated section of the firewall insulation that you can tear away to gain access to the grommet.

Actually my question is more about using the area for the 4 gauge power wire, not removing the insulation. I just want to know if this is a good place to run the wire. The insulation is easy to remove. Thanks.

UH, this is a brand new car, before I drill holes or cause any unnecessary damage to it I think I am allowed to ask a question about the firewall. Your reply to the question with your opinion would help VS a negative comment that serves no purpose in any thread.

I think I know where your going with this...

Step 1. Get an antenna from a car
2. sharpen one end
3. poke through rubber
4. find on other side...

Nope. I used the one which has the big bundle of wires from the engine compartment through to the passenger compartment. I figured this would ensure that I could route the power wire without problems, and it worked.

Yes, I saw that and also thought the same as it looks like plenty of room. If I can't find something closer to the driver side, I may use it and put my amp under the passenger seat instead of the driver seat. Thanks for the suggestion! It's definitely an option I would consider.

What I was looking for is to find out if the plug/grommet in the pic is a good place to run the Amp Power Wire. Maybe others have used it or tried but found it bad due to whatever. If it's just a plug and I can safely run the 4 gauge wire by drilling a hole in the plug, then that would be fairly easy. I don't need to figure out how to make the hole or find the other end, just asking about location and any possible interference. Thanks.....

I used another grommet (not shown in your picture) about 16" to the left of the grommet you circled, at the same height.

CAREFULLY cut a couple of crossed slits with an Xacto, above the existing wires in this grommet. If you don't make the cuts too big, the grommet will seal around the wire pretty nicely. I was able to simply push the wire through, and it ended up on the passenger side floor. I then was able to route it up into the center console, and from there to the sub and amp under the driver's side and passenger side seats. I really wanted to completely stay away from the brake pedal, accelerator, etc.

There is no insulation inside the passenger compartment behind this grommet.

I ended up using the large diamond shaped plug just below the red circled one. Pulled it out, made a small hole in the center of it, feed the 4 gauge wire, there is some insulation on the other side I made a slit in and pulled the wire through. If anyone needs pics, I will take and post both under hood firewall side and cabin side.

Default Can you put a pic of the inside of the car?

I would like to see where it comes through on the inside of the car. I can't use the diamond due to it already being used.

It's really simple, get a flash light and start looking for reference points. Go back and forth from engine bay to inside, once you think you've located the same spot. Use a small poker to test your spot. Something like this...

Can be made out of an old flat head or phillips screwdriver.....

or you can also pull those rubber plugs out sometimes too, which makes it even easier to test, you'll still need to poke something thru though since the inside firewall is typically lined with a foam/rubber matting.

Older thread but hoping I can get some help.

Where did you tap into the speakers for the RCA cables? I have a line output converter but don't know where to put it on this car

Typical location is behind the radio.

I'm not reading through all the replies but if you didn't get your answer, yes you can use it.

The guy that did the powered sub install on here used it in his 2013. No way that there's enough of a change from 2012 -> 2013 to make it unusable

I prefer the large rubber behind the drivers wheel well liner. It has a large unused section you can X with an exacto and slide the largest of wires through with ease, then also with ease route directly to the battery from the fender. Best of all only like 3 inches of wire is visible. No need to remove liner either, pop the last 3 clips off closest to the door and gently pull back.

I feel like an idiot for asking this, but does anyone have any tips for installing this grommet below (the longer one in the red box). I took this off for my amp install, and I am finding it extremely hard to re-install. There are 3 parts to the grommet, the center part fits back in find, but there is a nub on each end that I can't for the life of me figure out how to get back into the spot. Any tips?

Screw driver, panel tool, just take care not to push it through and destroy the rubber.

Holy old bump! I got this to work by applying some soap to the grommet and was able to get it seated pretty easily
