Default New Valve Tech

Pretty cool concept that seems to be reasonable and will allow for all kinds of cool tuning with unlimited timing potential.

This vid goes into a bit more depth than the other one and gives more insight into what final products might look like. I'm hoping this is more where the future of car power lies, because I think IC's will be tough to kill with electric for a while.

pneumatic valves are deffinetly going to be sweet.

pneumatic valves and direct injection seem like they are going to get all the low hanging performance left for an internal combustion engine.

It is the same youtube video posted on youtube on 2/19 and was posted in the other thread in post #5 on 2/26 by torquemada. Same video. 10:06 long.

That's my hope. The only thing left would be to add some way to directly control an individual cylinder's exhaust pulse and tune it so it properly interacts with another's as to fine tune scavenging. There's an awesome s2000 mid-pipe that is close to this (gernby's) but it's just not quite 100% yet, nor is it being used very widely in other cars.

They could just attach a trombone to each runner in the exhaust manifold.

I mean, the trick is to have the runner lengths be continuously variable since with infinitely variable valves, the exhaust pulses are going to be variable as well.

they could do this with the intake as well.

This idea has been around a long time. Camless engines have been "just around the corner" for over a decade. Google it - there are breathless articles dating back to 2000 and earlier.

I hope Koenigsegg are more successful than everyone else. This might work in a toy for the rich/supercar (I liked the bragging about 60,000 kilometers of use without breaking. Quadruple that and get back to us). It probably won't be in anything mere mortals can buy anytime soon.
