Default Question for all wrx wagon owners

I recently picked up an 05 wrx wagon for my wife getting rid of her Honda Element and for some unknown reason ...the gas milage is horriable. On a full tank ..we are getting a little over 200 miles. We have had to fill up the tank now 3 times in the past week and a half. My wrx tank will last me a week at least and around 350 miles to the tank. Is this the normal for a wrx wagon? If not ....what can we do?

I'm confused, you have a WRX that gets 350 to a tank, and your wife just got WRX wagon that getes 200 to a tank?

350 is my experience on my WRX(highway of course)

You might want to make sure the gas gauges are calibrated close to each other...or better yet check the actual mileage (actual math ).

We get 20-22 around town, mixed driving, depending on weather etc. Anywhere up to 26 (rare) on the highway; usually 22-24 at "efficient" speeds. Down to 20 if really efficient...

22-24 is my average with mixed driving (city & highway). When my foot is feeling heavy I can see the gas needle drop

In my 05 WRX Wagon I got about 240 miles to the tank. Is it an auto or manual? I would average between 18 - 21mpg.

I have an 02 stage 2 wagon and can hit 30mpg on highway trips and average about 25-27 city driving. Also realize that I tender(filters!!) foot it around town most of the time though. Shifts at 2500rpm and lower.

Stating that you are getting 200 miles doesn't mean much to me. What is the actual miles per gallon? Why can't people do the simple math? Are you using the correct gas? FWIW I get 21 mpg street, 28 mpg freeway.

I have an 03 wagon, I get between 240 and 260 miles to the tank (right when the fill light comes on). My limited understanding is that when a wrx is new or the computer has just been reset, the wrx will consume more gas and make adjustments based on driving style etc in the first 300 or so miles, part of the adaptive learning thing so your wagon may just be settling in.

20-22 mpg city here .. and that's semi-aggressive (c'mon, boost is fun). i've hit 28mpg on the highway cruising at 80mph (+/- 5 or so)

i'd suggest checking the air pressure in your tires. low pressure will kill your gas mileage.

Same mileage here - 240-270 on my commute - mix of city + highway - moderately "spirited" driving ('04 wagon - 5MT). If it's ALL highway driving, I get about 300 miles out of a tank.

Out of curiosity... Why are you dumping the Element?

I thought about getting one before I got my Scoob, and I would love to know why you decided to get rid fo yours.

In my '04 Wagon 5MT I'm averaging 26.5 MPG. Comes out to about 340-360 miles per tank.

98% freeway driving with little or no traffic at about 75-80 mph.

Around 26 mpg depending, but that's a pretty safe bet. The commute can be brutal, but lately I have been missing traffic. So I would say it's 50/50 bombing I95 and stopandgo on I95.

dang I love that dancing banana..

With that kind of mileage you will save the world from the skyrocketing fuel prices.

Ill do the caculations at the end of this full tank, its an automatic and the dealer said it would take at least 1000 miles for it to "break in"...maybe the ol'e lady does have a heavy foot since she did get outta the element but she says different. Got rid of the element because of the mpg and safety issues..dont get me wrong, they are great little mini vans ( plenty of room ) but with a baby girl hitting 2 yrs old this month there are just too many reports on how elements arent the safest vehicles out and she always wanted a suby so....... btw... we fill up with 91 octane at our local 76 gas station. Thanks for all the info, I just found it odd how we got rid of the element for the gas milage and its almost the same on the wagon.

Suggestions:
1. Auto and a heavy foot will = horrible milage.
2. Lot of short trips.
3. Low tire pressure.
4. Cold weather.
My wife gets about 8-9 miles per gallon less in the winter, driving to work (a 2 mile trip, and she has chronically underinflated tires when it is below 32 'cause she doesn't check them. A 20 degree drop in tire temp can really change you gas milage due to underinflation.

22mpg normally. 29 highway. Manual.

Not stock, but I still get the same gas mileage I did before even with the vf30 and bigger injectors/pump. Go figure

The MOST miles I will get on a full tank is 300 miles, I cant help but stay ON the boost, driving slow and shifting less than 3K rpms is teh sux

Now that I gutted the uppipe and changed to a turboback exhaust, my mileage is even worse...I cant help my lead foot
