I figured it would take a while to ship coming from overseas with customs and all. But mine is still Awaiting Shipment (8 days and counting)...

It's not a huge deal to me. However, there is a countdown timer on the Aliexpress order page indicating that the seller has "8 hours and 16 minutes" remaining to ship it. If it's not shipped by then the order is automatically canceled on their site.

I too have a 2015 WRX but in Limited trim. I was wondering if you had the same problem I am having with the install. There are two male connectors/wires for the stock unit (one pink one brown) and neither will fit the female connectors of the new aliexpress unit. For the pink male connector/wire (stock in the 2015 WRX) there is no corresponding female connection on the aliexpress model...I'm guessing its for Sat Radio, which I don't use so no biggie.

However the brown OEM male connector/wire will not fit the new aliexpress female port on the aliexpress unit (maybe this is for the USB/ipod in the armrest?).

I hooked up as much as was compliant and the stereo works but it will not recognize my ipod plugged into the armrest.

Were you able to hook up yours so that you can use an ipod? Did you too have no way of connecting the the (2) connections (1) brown & (1) pink?

Just wanted to check with a fellow 2015 owner before giving up. Which would stink as this new unit looks so much nicer...but I mostly wanted the screen for song info while using a USB/ipod, which it currently will not do in the 2015 WRX.

Well the countdown timer on my order lapsed without the seller shipping the item out. Now I'm just waiting for the funds to be put back into my bank account.

It's strange because the seller I bought from has 100% satisfaction on this product from 32 previous purchasers. I tried contacting him 3 times via their online chat and even though he was "online" he never responded.

For reference, this is the exact item/seller I ordered from:

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/SUBAR...868738365.html

At this point I'm not sure if I want to place another order with another seller or just hold out for something else...

I ordered from the exact same person and was able to online chat with them (around 9pm PST). From date of order to delivery in Cali it was about 12 days. To be precise ordered on Aug 21st and received it Sept 2nd.

Interesting...

How long was your status "Awaiting Shipment"? Did he send you a tracking number?

Don't recall exactly... maybe 3-5 days.

I actually just revisited the aliexpress link you used and it appears to be out of stock.

I'm still trying to figure out if I can use this in my 2015 WRX (I really want USB control)...so if the aliexpress HU doesn't work for me I will probably put it up for sale in NASIOC FS forum. I'll post back to this thread if I decide to sell mine.

I just got an email this morning indicating that it finally shipped. This occurred about 20 hours after the countdown timer expired too. Strange, but I'm happy it is still coming.

I imagine it should work considering your stock unit is the exact same as the one we have in the 2011-2014. Even if you have to modify something on the connector. I've read a few people with 2015's reported it working. I'll dig through the thread and see what I can find.

EDIT: Found some info...

It appears that your issue with the brown connector isn't just apparent with the 2015 model but also with the 2011-2014 models that have the USB/AUX ports in the center console (like mine). Apparently the brown connector you are speaking of has nowhere to go on the Aliexpress unit. However, even with this unplugged, people are reporting that USB and AUX still work.

Plug everything in except the brown one and test everything out. Report back and let us know what you find. My car has the USB/AUX ports in the center console so I imagine I'll be leaving this brown one unplugged as well.

Here are the posts where I found this info:

Yeah I contacted a 2015 guy from this thread and he stated that the brown/USB connector did not work in his so he just used the HU without it.

I just received a reply from the guys at ae64.com and they have confirmed our suspicions. There are adapters for that. It cost around $30 shipped.

FOR 2015+ WRX OWNERS
If you too have a 2015 just go to ae64.com and email them with your request and they will get back to you with the items you need and instructions for ordering. Just be sure to send them detailed information on your set up and maybe some pics and they can help you out as well. Just remember like others here have stated you will loose Satellite Radio & HD Radio & some AM radio with this aliexpress swap. If you want those features retained you will have to find a US spec model that retails for over $1k or used for anywhere from $400-700 (average). For most of us on this thread a ~$120 aliexpress unit is worth the loss of these little/not-used features.

UPDATE W/ LINKS:

as per David at ae64.com here are the (2) adapters you will need...

* Toyota USB adapter:

* Reverse Subaru USB adapter:

Just updated my previous post with some findings. Before ordering additional parts, try plugging everything in except the brown connector and see if everything still works for you. Others reported that even with the brown connector disconnected they have 100% functionality. Seems strange but you might as well give it a shot.

Yeah I tried hooking it up without the brown connector and I could not get the USB/ipod in the armrest to work. I believe that this may not be so on the 2009-2011 Foresters and 2008-2011 Imprezas. Anywho, in the case of the new 2015 WRX wiring harness I believe things changed, so I contacted ae64.com and they said this:

The cable with the pink outer housing is indeed for your car's XM antenna. That will also fit Subaru's Sirius and XM satellite radio tuner modules (for Subaru HUs that didn't have sat radio capability built-in).

The brown socket on the rear of the CP435L1 is for the USB input. See the annotated drawing posted here:

http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulle...341-post1.html

(that is for the US Forester CP635U1, but the rear sockets are identical to your CP435L1).

Your WRX uses a Toyota-style plug for the USB socket (that is, a plug previously seen used in many Toyota models). Subaru has started switching over to Toyota type harnesses on its HUs.

So to connect your WRX's factory USB harness to the CP435L1's USB socket, you'll need two adapters:

It's been 4 days since it shipped and the tracking number he gave me is still invalid. I tried contacting him 2 times through chat and email and he still won't respond to me.

I'm just gonna assume that it will be here sometime this week. At which point it will all be worth it, but if it doesn't come this week I may consider opening a dispute with him over the order. A simple response to any of my inquiries would suffice.

This sounds like a great little upgrade. I'll probably end up getting one since I don't use hd/satellite radio or AM that often.

I haven't bought anything from Singapore In a long time, but I know things from china take forever and their tracking systems aren't as good as the ones in the us. In my experience, I think the only Asian country that actually exports shipments pretty quick is japan. Singapore also has their own form on English, and I notice Asian countries tend to try to avoid communication... Lol. I'm hoping you get your order soon, but I wouldn't worry too much yet.

Yeah, for sure. It's now been in shipping for 7 days. I figure, if it isn't here by Friday I may open a dispute on their site. I'm not too concerned yet. But it is very strange to me that the seller openly communicated with other people in this thread about their order but he refuses to respond to any of my inquiries.

So I have a 15 WRX on order. Currently have a cm631ud 86201FJ630 radio. Will I need the two wires from ae64 to have my USB plug work in the center cubby?

I FINALLY got a response from the seller via their online chat. However, it took me essentially threatening to dispute the transaction to get him to respond to me.

Me (2014-09-12 21:00:05): Hi. I have Order NO:63575419497092. It was placed on August 26th. However, it still has not arrived. Do you know when I can expect to get the radio?

*5 minutes later...*

Me (2014-09-12 21:05:06): I'd really like to avoid disputing this but I haven't heard anything from you with multiple inquiries and the tracking number you provided is invalid. I still have no idea if I can expect the package at all at this point.

Louis zhong (2014-09-12 21:06:04): hello. easy please, let me check it for you now

Me (2014-09-12 21:06:21): Of course. Thanks for responding

Louis zhong (2014-09-12 21:08:03): so sorry for the delay reply,we sent your parcel two weeks ago,but our shipping department made a stupid mistake, they put wrong addree to anther customer who comes from USA also, and we done the return process it will coming tomorrow,we will send it with your correct address again,Hope this is not too late for you,and sorry again for all

Me (2014-09-12 21:08:49): When can i expect to receive it?

Louis zhong (2014-09-12 21:09:38): next friday.is it OK?

Me (2014-09-12 21:09:57): Ok. That will work. As long as it comes no later than next Friday. If possible, please expedite it.

Louis zhong (2014-09-12 21:10:26): ok,thanks a lot,have a good night

Me (2014-09-12 21:10:35): You too.

....
Seems like an honest mistake, I suppose. I considered asking for a refund on my shipping but didn't want to make an already complicated transaction even more so. Also, within 5 minutes of our conversation ending I received an email update from Aliexpress indicating that the seller had re-shipped the item and my "buyer protection" was extended another 2 weeks.

Looks like I'll be getting it next Friday.

Yes, you'll need the two USB adapter cables. See the pictures whatthewhat added to his post #1083 (9 posts back).

All of the new HU's radio/audio features will be "plug-and-play" in your WRX, except that the CM631UD will not send any radio data to your car's Multi-Function Display (MFD -- the small screen above the A/C vents). Most of the information you'd be seeing from your stock HU on the MFD will probably be shown on the CM631UD's own screen anyway. It would be interesting if you could take "before" and "after" notes (and even pictures!) to see exactly how they compare on all of the various modes (AM/FM, CD, USB-thumbdrive, iPod via USB or Bluetooth, aux, and sat radio).

One thing you'll loose is XM sat radio (since the CM631UD does not have that built in). You would have to install Subaru's expensive sat radio tuner module (example) to add that to the CM631UD. But then your car's sat radio antenna cable would plug straight into that module. There is a version of the kit without the antenna (for cars that already have one), which should cost slightly less. They're even cheaper used.

Finally, if you want to add a rear camera, you'll have to add a custom 16-pin harness adapter. The CM631UD is expecting to see the reverse gear signal on pin #16 there (and the parking brake signal on pin #15). Your WRX has assigned pins 8, 15, and 16 to communicate with the MFD. So you would need an adapter that you insert between your car's 16-pin harness plug and the CM631UD HU's 16-pin socket. The adapter must pass through the pins for the mic and aux, and provide a plain wire for you to supply the reverse gear signal into the HU (and optionally also a wire to do the same for the parking brake signal). Yes, i can build that for you. You'll also need my 8-pin rear camera harness. E-mail me for details.

ADDED: When you remove your OEM HU, you need to disconnect power from the MFD for some period of time (more than 30 seconds, but less than 2 minutes), to make it "forget" it had ever seen your OEM HU. Otherwise the MFD will complain about the OEM HU being AWOL.

^ not sure what you mean with backup camera. Will lose my camera on the MFD with the radio, or if I want to be able to see the screen as well.

I'm not worried about the satellite radio since I don't plan on subscribing to their service.

Would the 635 radio retain some of the features from the forester? I opted out of that one cause I read the 635 won't let the radio dim with the lights on.

I was talking about connecting a camera to the rear camera input on the transplanted HU (CM631UD, CP635U1, etc.).

If you have an OEM camera displayed on the MFD and are happy with that, you don't need to do anything.

If you want redirect the OEM camera to the new HU instead of the MFD, you would need the 16-pin adapter harness that I described above, plus another harness to feed the OEM camera to the new HU's 8-pin camera socket. I'm working on having a factory make something for me, since many people with the Fujitsu Ten nav or aftermarket HUs have said they'd prefer to see the OEM camera on the HU instead of the MFD (especially when their HU has a larger screen).

Quote:

What features from a Forester? I compare the CM631UD and CP635U1 in this post.

The CM631UD is the only current model I'm aware of that has the 4.3" screen and has the newer style of illumination dimness cancellation that Subaru switched to in the new models (2012-up Impreza & Crosstrek, 2014-up Forester, 2015-up WRX/STi).

Note that the illumination (+) and (-) signals (pins 1 and 2 on the 20-pin power/speaker harness) are the same on all 2008-up models. The normal illumination and variable brightness will work on any of those HUs in any of those cars.

The only thing that changed (regarding illumination) is the way the car does NIDC (see previous link). So if you don't care about NIDC, you could use the Forester CP635U1.

Just got my CM631UD in and installed it last night in my 2013 wrx!

That was as plug and play as it gets. Hardest part was just getting off the trim (and that was not difficult).

SUPER impressed by how much easier this makes life. Menu prompts are so much easier with the screen. Ipod navigation through the AUX is a BREEZE now.

I can confidently say that the audio quality is better vs. our stock radio. I'm not saying it compares to aftermarket, but it is better than what I had.

I'm not a SAT radio guy so I didn't care about having that. The gain of the screen and HD radio was well worth it. I got this deck for a decent price, and it was worth every penny.

I still have to mess around with the background settings, but thanks to this thread, I had no issues with anything else!

Ugh...

UPS, Fedex and USPS have all made their daily deliveries to my apartment complex today and none of them had this radio with them. The seller promised me that it would be delivered today at the latest but now he's gone ghost on me again.

The tracking number he provided still doesn't work and I am about to dispute the order to hopefully get my money back. But before I do, can someone please tell me what carrier delivered your radio when you ordered it from aliexpress.com? I'm hoping that maybe it's with a carrier that doesn't come every day, such as DHL.

The tracking code is 23 digits long. I tried it on UPS, USPS, Fedex, and DHL. None of them have a record of this shipment.

I've had enough. I disputed the order within aliexpress and now just hoping to get my money back.

EDIT: Much to my surprise the seller (Louis Zhong) already accepted my dispute and issued a full refund. He left no comments as to what happened. The fact that he didn't say anything, never provided an accurate tracking number, and immediately refunded my money after I made the dispute, tells me the item likely never shipped in the first place.

So beware of this seller if ordering from Aliexpress.com. Unless you want to get the run around, I'd avoid placing an order with him. I'll update this thread if the radio ever does show up but I think it's safe to assume it won't.
