Any suggestions on particular tires. I'm looking at the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3, Blizzak LM-60, Pirelli Winter 240

D_Smitt, do you care about noise?
If you care not about noise, wet or dry but ice and snow then you may want studded tires. But if you are in Downingtown, PA then it probably is overkill. Studless winter tires may be your best choic. Blizzaks WS series are usually leading the way in this category. Krzys |

Another performance winter that received high praise from CR, and one we don't see mentioned very frequently here, is the Hankook Winter i*Cept Evo. But I am not aware of any other tests of this tire. FWIW, it came in 2nd overall in the 2010 CR tests. Personally, I would be hesitant to buy a set of new tires on the recommendation of CR alone.

x-ice is a top tier winter tire. the generals are a older design with not as good of a compound, but the tread pattern is great and its a good performer. winterforce suck imo. there are much better "budget" choices.

Other than being round and black, the General Altimax Arctic and the Hankook iPike W409 are not "pretty much the same tire". Different tread design is the most visible difference. And no doubt they differ in internal construction and in rubber formulation.

Yea, it does seem to be an odd winter size but I have to sets of wheels right now and that's what fits em.
Besides if there are only a few to pick from then it makes it easier to narrow down. I need to look into the 3d I haven't seem them offered in my size yet. |

If you build your own Tire Rack winter package, it has 16 steelies as an option.

my winter wheels/tires showed up today! 205/60R16 ws70's on steelies. went 205/60R16 because they are only .3" taller than stock and $21 a piece cheaper than 215/55R16's.

Hi Guys!
Have a 2011 subaru WRX 5-door. Quick question - I live in San Francisco but I plan on making a weekend trips to tahoe during snowboarding season (probably a 4 hour drive there and a 4 hour drive back). I typically go to kirkwood. I'm going to get some new wheels and tires. I was thinking that I wouldn't want to change them every time i go up to tahoe, and probably wouldn't need dedicated snow tires since I don't live up there, but I wanted to get your guys suggestions. Is there a good all weather tire that you would recommend, or should I get a dedicate snow tire and drive 3.5 hours on freeway before I actually get to the snow? Anyone else in a similar situation? How did they handle this? |

I'm thinking about getting the WS70s. I read in a review somewhere (can't recall or find the thread) that the blizzaks the reviewer had (cant remember the model) were "squirelley above 70". probably an older model with a lower rating. the WS70s are a T-rating (118 mph).
