I picked up a set of pivot bushings (suppose to be for the 04-056MT) but they are too big (by 1-2mm) to fit. Do you have 2 different thickness of the bushings?

Just installed my kartboy shifter yesterday...for the 06's...just remove the silver piece/ash tray area around the shifter...just pull up on the back end of it (closer to the handbrake) and the whole thing comes up...with plenty of room to get to the shifter.

I have the following on my 2004 WRX:
-SPT Factory Short Throw Assembly (gold) -TiC 5MT Narrow Pivot Bushings -Kartboy Front Shifter Stay Bushing -Kartboy Rear Shifter Stay Bushing -one of my custom shift knobs Shifting is very precise, although notchy from the factory ss linkage. The bushings made very nice improvements over the stock ss. The shift knob (which i have cycled through at least 8 of my own custom designs) makes just as big of an improvment as anything else. |

The SPT Factory Short Throw Assembly is not GOLD. Here is a Pic. The SPT SS is on the bottom.

Pre-04 05 "A" Bushings
Hey TiC, any word on that "retro-fit" kit you have for the 02-03's??? If you have a proto or something and need a beta, I'd be happy to do it, or sell em, I don't care I just need some sweet bushings :-) Let me know if you can. Thanks!

Whoops - didn't see this until now. Just got the quote back for the custom bolt needed for proper bolt up (so far we've been fudging the bolt on the testers). All I gotta say is damn a custom milled from raw stock, odd shaped, grade 8 bolt is expensive. I wish it wasn't, but believe me I scoured the planet looking for a bolt that would drop in. It doesn't exist.

For the riveted pin in the 5MT's, (the one on the transmission/front end of the linkage) couldn't you just include a/some pin/bolt/s in the kit with a hole drilled on the end facing the transmission so we could just install a washer and cotter pin?

I just added Kartboy front and rear bushing and TiC pivot bushings in my OEM STI 5MT short shifter, and I noticed that the linkage and pivot bushings were already a firm purple-coloured polyurethane. Not quite as stiff as the TiC pivot bushings, but close. I don't think there's any point replacing the stock bushings, but since I had the TiCs, I threw them in.

That's funny because when I just went outside to check my setup to decide which bushings I should get, I found the same thing. The bushings in my stock 1996 1.8L 5spd ("C" in the first post) are purple urethane bushings as well. I thought maybe someone had swapped them already. The ones I need to actually swap are the ones in the linkage labeled as "A" in the picture in the first post though. Hopefully I can find a way to swap them without buying an entire linkage, like the one on wrxparts.com.
Well.. bought a factory short shifter linkage for an 02 wrx and now I just need the bushings for where it meets the transmission in that weird linkage, unless I have to get another linkage.. Last edited by 2slofouru; 02-20-2007 at 11:36 PM. |

The purple ones are actually blue and are quite soft. They are poly based, but do brake down over time and are responsible for much of the play in the shifter. I have been running the prototype 5mt linkage we developed for a couple month now and love it. No play at all in the shifter. It will cost a bit more than the sti version (as there are bushings and a linkage involved), but is definitely worth the added cost. I literally haven't missed a shift since installing it...seriously.

Now, as for the reason why you see the TiC name all over it - my guess would be because as far as we know we're the only ones doing upgraded linkage and pivot bushings. If there were others I'm sure Ron would include them in a list as he has done with so many of his FAQs. |
