Recommend Shop to Install Autopower Rollbar/cage
Can someone recommend a shop in the Seattle area that has experience installing the Autopower bolt-in rollbar or rollcage? It's going into a 2004 STI.

Hey Jeff (i dug this old thread up). How'd this work out for you? Did you go with an Autopower cage? if so, which one/options and who installed it for you?
I'm interested in the idea of tracking my car a lot more than I have been so I'm looking into safety options (won't do it again without em). thanks! |

I went with the autopower race roll bar. SCCA track trials only require a rollbar. Autopower sells the front section if you want to go with a cage later. Speedware installed the rollbar for me. I dug up some pics:
SCCA has an annual tech at speedware Feb 18. Their scrutineers will be there. You can ask them questions. There will probably be some cool race cars out there, too. Did you do any mods over the winter? I replaced the downpipe and exhaust system. Went with coils and carbon fiber trunk. Also installed adjustable lateral links. Got my novice time trials license, too, so I should be all set. The first time trials is March 5 in Bremerton. You should come out. Quote:

I've installed a couple of those now. Shipping to us is quite a bit more reasonable now that we've had several delivered as well. PM me for a great price on the kit shipped and installed. Plus we have the best padding money can buy in stock.

OK, I've got to make a suggestion 90 degrees off. I would suggest you contact a race club (local scca or whatnot) and find who does good custom installs. I (tried to) put an autopower cage in an MR-2 SC years back and frankly it was a mess. It never did fit right, apparently the design hadn't been changed for the t-tops. Autopower did try, they even sent me a second copy, but it was no better than the first. When it was all said and done all I could keep was the roll bar because the rest of the cage put a cross bar two inches in front of my forehead, which is not the kind of safety I was looking for. And I am 5'3", not exactly tall.
Also if you get a custom one they can weld it into the chassis at more points instead of just bolting it in to give you a lot more chassis stiffness. If you a stuck on getting the autopower you'll probably have more luck with the WRX since there is a lot more room than the MR2 (particularly headroom), so this is just my $.02, but I was very disappointed with my cage. |

Yeah, I got there round 9:30am and was out of there by 10:30am. Inspection wasn't too bad. Maybe I'll see you out at the Mar 5th Time Trials.

Can someone take a picture of the mounting points? Out of all the Autopower rollbar/cage threads I've read, I've never seen a picture of the mounting points.
