Default Hello...my name is C...and I'm unemployed

yep....got Rif'ed at work (reduction in force). They weren't meeting expenses, so they had to cut back I guess. I have severance until January, which helps, but I still need a job...

Maybe I'll come work with Gooseman!

Sucks man, happened to me about a year and a half ago. It took awhile to find a job, job hunting sucks. Job hunting sucks worse when you dont have a job to work while doing said job hunting.

Anyway, I would reccomend that you sign up for unemployment asap. Use it you earned it. Next take a trip or do something to give yourself some perspective.

That's a raw deal man.....

Hopefully you can find something new fairly quick. If not, maybe it's time to start up the consulting business.

that is what we call it here... nobody uses the "L" word... it now made to sound so much nicer... Several employes were part of the "RIF" process, today...

sorry to hear you were on the receiving end.

Being unemployed is the best. It's been my full time gig for about 2 months now.

Boeing Wichita is hiring IT employees because they recently fired IBM GlobalServices.

that would mean moving 180 miles north of course, but if I got canned today I'd definitely include OKC and KC in my searches.

There's a lot of places that tried replacing their IT staff with IBM GlobalServices and are slowly getting away from them now.

Sucks to hear C, I hope you find something soon.

Whereabouts do you live and what do you do?

Be careful of filing for unemployment; if your severance until January is equal to your regular income you won't get any unemployment, and will have to futz around going to orientations and crap (at least I did in NJ).

Could you get letters of referral/recommendation from your ex-employer? Never hurts to ask; all they can do is say no and, if they give you something positive, it'll be a big help.

Keep telling yourself, out loud if you have to, that this was not your fault; whatever your employer did to generate sales didn't work and a bunch of people all over the company got the same smelly deal. Don't let yourself spend time sitting at home; force yourself to get up and go out, even just to the library or bookstore or something. If you sit at home you'll MAC10 your own place after a few weeks.

For-serious, PM me if you want. More support=bettAr.

I did file for unemployment, but was told to not actually show until my severance is up.

I can get referrals from all my guys at my last job, this was a home office decision, so no hard feelings to anyone local.

Colin, thanks for the heads up, I'll check boeing's site now.
