I might add, you guys have it so much easier - with the brake booster and clutch master on the LHS.

Mine has a modified closed deck EZ30 block, time will tell how it compares to a sleeved block. Did you consider the whole "boxer bore shift" issue? I would have thought that the sleeves alone would walk around on the head gaskets.

I considered the big ends for a while.. I ended up using std(size) STI big end bearings, as they have a wider cross section than the H6 bearings = more surface area to carry load, and can still be held captive with a custom rod (I used bespoke ARGO rods).

Just thought I'd let you know that the Aussies are onto it as well.

yes, it's a back yard shed, and no, it's not a show car, it's built to race.
Very very nice! I love to hear about more H6 projects. The sleeve issue is something we talked about, and only time will really tell. I ended up not sleeving my block primarly so I can find out what the limit of the sleeveless setup is. Your rod setup sounds very interesting.

Built to race... very very nice.

Clark,
Thanks! Ya the GT4094R is a great next step. It got enough more air flow to easily make it to 700WHP on pump fuell. At least that is my guess. Thanks for the nice words!!

STimo,
We could have easily done more power on C16. I think we could get very close to 700, but with in reason the turbo is just not going to flow tons more air. We stuck with 92 pump fuel and 50/50 meth injection as this is such a common setup, and something anyone can run every day. C16 is just not feasable to run every day. I have 15K on this car, and 11K are with the H6. Had i been running C16 it would have cost a fortune!

Paintballguy,
Drag strip yes! As bad as this might sound, i am a drag guy. So don't expect anything super crazy. But at i expect high MPH, just not good 60ft times. In a couple of months the track will be open again. Look for some numbers soon!

turbo tecnica,
Thanks! That is really be best thing to look at, Boost vs, power. It is nice to think about how much stress there is on the engine to get to 600WHP.

west_minist,
What is next...... Well beat the car up some more, prove the engine is good to hold 600WHP every day. Then by the time Subiefest is over, and as August approaches its time to start thinking about the 08 car. Hmmm.... 2008 STI with 3.5L????

dan avon7,
Yup 4094R, the only reason why a 42R is not in the near future is lag. 4000RPM is perfect, not to much lag, and still responsive enough. But you never know!

carnz-pj-410,
3 builds does suck, but that is how you learn!

Carisma,
Kits, we do get this question alot, and at this point no. As fun and as cool as this project is, its just not something for everyone. So there would be very few people that actually would buy the kit, and it would be very expensive. As Jeff S mentioned, PDXTuning has quoted 20K-30K. Its also hard to offer a warranty for something like that.

ScoobySooby,
This next year we are going to be traveling around the country to hit more and more events, so i am sure you can. Or if you make it the Portland area, stop by!

SPOOLN STI
I hope 10's, but like i said, i am not a drag racer. So it might do 13's but with trap speed of 150!!

myliberty,
That is very nice! You did your WG just like i did. Simple and effective. Please don't take this the wrong way, can you start your own post with those pics? And possibly remove your post?? Please don't take that the wrong way, i think your build deserves its own thread. Glad to see the Aussies going crazy also!

bunot,
1.COST COST COST COST!! Already this thing was pretty expensive, and to add that cost into the build, and the fact the whole thing may not have been able to hold the power. This was a risky build as it is!

2.Plans, yes, drags, a track day or 2 to make sure things can hold up under extended torture. Then there is Subiefest 2, time attacks and a few other things we plan on doing.

3.No stalling?? The hydra is a great tool, but it can be a little finicky when setting it up. The stalling thing is fixed with some tweaks in the Hydra, and it hasn't been a problem for about a year or so.

Again thank you everyone for the nice comments! Sorry this is along post, i hope no one got bored or lost during the reading!

Are you taking in account the differences in Volumetric Efficiency with the cam lobe switch? Since the car isn't using a MAF, you should be able to figure out how much the VE changes by looking at the fuel curve. Not sure how much of a difference it would make on your plot though, but it could be significant.

Kudos!!!

BTW, did you ever weight the engine? You talked about how it was only .7 longer than a WRX engine. I'm curious what the weight difference is.

Maybe you can make up the weight by installing a Hollinger or PPG 5speed dogbox. If you're really a drag guy Should hold the power and will save the weight from the 6-speed.

So much guts to take on this project. I hope it was worth it!!! I think it was.

Great writeup

1) I remmeber a while ago you guys talked about a valvetrain/AVCS/AVLS issue w/ the stock stuff not taking the boost you wanted..did you guys ever solve that?

2) Will there be a V3 header? I mean, in order to have an optimal twin scroll H6 header, which cylinders need to mate?

iirc, it was that the valve springs were waaay too light and were unable to close the valves against the manifold pressure. i would think that that issue was solved once the upgraded valve springs were installed.

also iirc, in the h6 things work out to your favor in the exhaust timing department, since each of the "sides" has one of its three cylinders firing every 120* of crank rotation, which means all you have to do is join 'em up with equal length headers and bring it right to the exhaust housing.

who knows though--i could be wrong on both counts.

blowbyu24,
Thank you! That was the original goal, Ultimate Street Car. Isn't there an event called that??............

ComeOnKip,
Not completely sure, but 50lbs have been thrown around. But that is the entire thing. We weighed our cars one time and found that my car weighed about 100lbs more than the other STI's. BUt mine also had an Autopower roll bar in it.

Garwin,
Thanks!!

keaniegenie,
Starting 2nd is very doable with this car. I completely agree, a built 5speed box, that goes to 200MPH would be perfect for the torque this has. Was it worth it?? Yes, it had its ups and down, but in the end it is fun, sounds cool and is very unique.

pio!pio!,
1.I think you are talking about the OEM springs. They are very very weak, and they will not hold any large amount of boost. We were surprised they did as good as they did on the first build. But this build has Supertech springs and retainers. So boost and 8000RPM will be no problem.

Or maybe you are talking about the lift?? These is strange phenomenon when the lift is turned on too low, but that is also fixed, we just turn the lift on later.

2. Nope that header is good enough. And actually the pules are just fine. Meaning the firing order works perfect collecting both head together, then up to each scroll. But some changes to make the collectors longer and exactly equal length could be done. But for very very minor gains.

keaniegenie,

PPG now make a 4speed straight cut dog engagement gearset for the 6 speed box. They call it their DRAG set.
yes, only 4 gears, but hydrogen bomb proof. and any ratios you want.
and only A$6,800. what's that, about US$4.38?
