Post Ramada Express Rally coverage

Did anyone else who saw this think the peice was put together poorly? Looks like they got the local highschool's telecom class to put it together and a C-SPAN narrator to do the talking. I'm no television show production expert, it just seemed weak.

Is Speedvision doing this or are they buying the show from another production company? Oh well, at least they are now hour long shows for SCCA and WRC rallys.

All rally coverage in the U.S. is bought from independant production companies--Speedvision rarely sends their own cameras.

I thought the coverage was different, but not necessarily worse than the ProRally coverage. It seemed to have a more documentary feel--like the Dakar coverage, compared to the more sensational style of the SCCA events. I really liked the feeling of and endurance race the pacing conveyed. People need to understand that just finishing an event like that is an achievement. Often I get the feeling from the SCCA coverage that the whole rally is about an hour long.

They really did their research and found GREAT camera locations. The voiceovers were a bit weak, though.

Yes, I'd have to agree that the one hour format serves the event a lot better than the previous 1/2 hour shows.

Also I remember seeing a Speedvision crew at both STPR and Maine last year.

IMHO the Ramada coverage was better than any of the WRC coverage I've seen on Speedvision! Tons of "racing" shots with very little talking, and useless information I didn't want to know anyway. Was I surprised (or upset) that Mitsu won? No, it was a Mitsu backed/prepped car. It is to bad about the Impreza's, I would have liked to have seen a few more. I did however notice the silver RS parked off the side of the road (spectator) in one of the shots and a white RS with gold wheels in the background at one of the checkpoints

That was a white '99 Impreza belonging to one of the crew for Mike Whitman's Sierra.

Better than any WRC footage? Do you own anything made from Nomex?

Go easy on him Mark

The only show that was better than was last seasons 1/2 hour SCCA ProRally shows and the reason is the extra 1/2 hour.

Hey I said the coverage was better, not the racing! It just seems that the WRC coverage is 20 minutes of interviews, tech checkpoint shots and scenery, then they throw in 5 minutes of actual race footage and 5 minutes of commercials Gimme 20 minutes+ of racing footage and I'll be happy.

The best rally coverage I've ever seen was a helicopter following Tom McGeer down a long fast stage at a Canadian event. No commentary for about 10 minutes--just the poetry of the rally car drifting through the turns at 90mph.

Well, this was the first rally I'd ever watched (on Speedvision or anywhere else) ... overall it was ... adequate I suppose. But it left me wanting more.

{rant} I mean, if NASCAR can get, what is it 2-3 hours for the Daytona 500, then the rally events should get more than one hour of highlights. I still can't imagine how people watch continuous NASCAR coverage ... (they're approaching a left turn, and another left turn, here's another left turn, and a left turn ...) ... NASCAR should be the event with only highlights, IMHO. {/rant}

I will watch any and all Speedvision rally events ... hopefully they'll get better.

BS. Speedvision is on every single ProRally event.

Just because some of the cameramen are wearing Speedvision jackets doesn't mean that a) they are Speedvision employees or b) that there isn't an independent production company (Replica Productions in Cambridge, MA) running the show.
