short ram for sti.
does anyone know if a short ram intake will be able to replace the stock air box on the sti?
Also, does anyone think that these types of air intakes will hinder or improve hp. Regarding the wrx I have heard of both significant increases of hp and minimal losses as well. I appologize if this has been previously posted.

it will screw up the air flow just like it does with the WRX .. sell it if you have one
due to the design of the stock intake aftermaket intakes will give incorrect air flow readings.. leaning out the mixture .. this is where the power comes from .. its just not a good idea |

I have yet to see an Intake for the WRX thats has a proven gain most have lost a few HP. The factory intake flows extremely well anyway

It is possible that by having a less restrictive intake, you could reduce lag, but as these other guys have stated, no one has produced an intake worth while for the WRX. The stock intake works fine. Same probably goes for the STi. Its not running any more boost than the WRX. -BrianK |

actually I suspect there are minor changes done to the plastic tubing to allow for a bit more air flow. There might not be more boost however a 2.5L engine will indeed suck in more air per second than the WRX. At either rate, yes of course, it all comes down to the modified MAF readings. It wil be a little while before an apropiate intake along with their corrected MAP (if any) is released.
But 1 thing that WILL HELP for sure is that piece made up by generationplastics.com and hopefully the very same piece will fit the STi. Hey.. $35-$45 is the best bang for the buck ever besides the 3/16" restrictor mod. |

I think the quickest way to 350 BHP is a new boost/fuel/ignition map. Based on the components used I'd be surprised if anything else needed changing.

Okay, let's say you're greedy - what might be the fastest way to 400 hp??
Do you think a combo of the above mods (polished TB, hoses, turbo-back, and new maps) would get you to high 300's? Say 375hp? Just wondering/dreaming... Russ Rainforth |

Anyway, I will be replacing the intake tract that goes to the turbo with the unit from the S202, being as its much larger and will match (should match) better to this "new" secret turbo the car comes with. Other than that waiting for the word from Scott @ Prodrive USA as to when the 400hp kit will be available for the STI.( ECU, full exhuast, intercooler hoses, etc ) Adding a STI oil cooler kit and J-spec type RA front spoiler. 18 inch Prodrive forged wheels and AP 6 piston calipers with 14.4 inch motorsport rotors. --nothin' special ,.just the regular stuff !! Glenn, for sure you are at least doing cat back right, some Pagid pads, a drop in filter ?? 944 turbo guy |

I think that just a full exhaust system (including headers) plus a ECU remap would = 350hp or more. Especially considering how much power simular mods for the WRX effect it...
