Can 1 reflash a 02 5spd ecu to 4eat ecu?
Does anyone know if it matters if an ecu was originally for a 5spd, when it is going to be the host for a reflash on a 4eat? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it does, but I'm not sure how the do the reflashes. seems to me that they don't just wipe out what's there and put in a completly new program it's just that they tweek the parts that matter so could it be done yeah maybe, would cobb or some other tuner do it probably not, but all it takes is a phone call or e-mail to find out.

i wouldn't ask Cobb. try asking ECUtek. Cobb doesn't even know you can take out the speed limiter on the 4EAT with a reflash.

the problems with Cobb stem from poor delivery of products. Cobb cams. ridiculously overpriced items. overexaggerating the Conebasher. not knowing a reflash can take out the speed limiter. these are just a few in recent memory that makes Cobb a bad company. if you had great epxerience with them, then good for you. there are many others who can't say the same. i would still advise thesmokingman to get a second opinion about using a 5MT ecu for a 4EAT car. jason |

I've contacted Cobb about the spd limiter and their answer was that it can not be done or they don't have provisions for it in their product, and that they have another product soon that can remove the limiter.
What does that tell me? Something is funny here, when Jorge in his 4eat has been well over the spd limit in his Ecutek flashed 4eat. It sounded funny to me then and its sounds funny to me now. Bunot was making a point of that, which I already knew thanks to a lil research. He wasn't bashing, just making a point that highlights a key observation about Cobb. I'm not going share my conclusions or assumptions, but they have been pointed out. See, the gains can be had by either flash, but what is the kicker for me is the spd limiter defeat and whether I can use a spare ecu or not. If I listened to Cobb, well who knows what boat I'd be in... |
