What would you think of a hood with pods built in?

If you read the entire thread there are many pics of my setup and wiring schematic however to save you the pain, here ya go.

Also a video, dont worry about the angle of my lights, when you get 10' of snow that is where they need to point or you get snow glare.

Thanks alot Rapid_Roo! One is covered because it is not done yet. I modified a set of halogen FF1000 rear covers to work with an Hid reflector. The Hid rear covers are unavailable. I opted to piece these together because I had a few ballasts and capsules laying around and couldn't see spending the money on a complete set when I could make it work with what I had. I didn't want to have a rock go through the lens before I got to see it work! It should be fully functional this week though!

^^

hey maybe you can tell me. I got some spare HID retro fit kits here, and I can't tell if it the ballasts, ignitors or the bulbs are dead. do you know any way to test them?

TIA

Unfortunately I don't know a good way to test them. The only thing I have found, when the bulbs are bad, (ds2) they will be very dark in the center section and/or have a white spot on the outer glass in that same center section area. I am using the generation 3 hella units and have a good ballast and bulb that I use to test new parts I come across. I have taken apart a few ballasts that did not work and have found melted circuit boards inside of them. It's very obvious. I suppose you could test the ballast with a volt meter if you have one that reads high enough. I'll try to do this and see if I can get an answer if this would be a good test or not.

thanks, I've asked about it before on the electrical forum and no one gave me any usable advice.

I was planning on retro fitting my Hella 4000s with HIDs, but I ended up using the kit that I was going to use for it in my headlights when they gave out.

rpablo-thanks! I made the light bar. I tried to take some night shots. Didn't turn out well. I can't figure out how to set the camera up so they turn out. Any pointers for taking pics at night?

what type of camera are you using.

if you have the ability to set to manual, do so. there are a few ways of doing it. but the most important thing to use is a tripod.

I usually set the camera to a time priority and select a really long time frame, set the camera on the tripod and have the camera on self timer mode. Set the camera up, hit the timer, and walk away.

here it click, go back and check your shot and see which way you need to adjust the time.

that's one way, like I said, there are tons of ways of doign it depending on the camera that you use.

if theyre mounted behind the grill what is the best way to do it? ive been thinking to do something like this with my 02 wagon, i dont really want something that sticks out and grabs too much attention, and i wouldnt want to cut holes in my grill eihter.

by the way i love those morettes on the black bugeye, but i cant find a place that sell them, are they legal in California?

As you can see here...

Custom made the brackets myself. Cut out part of the bumper to and foam. Got to the bumper beam where there is a nice hole to mount a bolt in. Took a 2in wide corner brace for drywall and fabbed it up so that one hole sat on the beam and the other one was connected to the Hella. I'm thinking of remaking the brackets so they sit completely flush with my bumper. I'll take pictures of everything off if I do it.

I picked up a set of 500 driving and 500FF driving las night. The FF box is about half the size, and includes a pair of lights, harness, covers, etc. Same stuff as the larger box does. $65 plus tax for FF, $49.99 for older 500. They didn't have the new boxed 500's though, so I got the old ones. Will return the older ones in favor of FF style. Was hoping to install them for 7 hour road trip Wednesday, but no time, as I already have to cut the stock harness to solder on some disconnects for the Hellas.
