Default Sneak Peak: AMR 5" Intercooler Cores now available for AMR FMIC Kits (2004-2010 STi)

  • Rated for 1600CFM
  • High Density
  • Bar & Plate Design
  • AMR Cast End Tanks
  • 3" Inlet & 3" Outlet

With the increase in technology and the growing demand of more power out of turbochargers we have seen the need to manufacture a larger intercooler. Today's turbochargers are not like they once were. Flowing extremely better and producing better numbers.

A perfect example of this is the standard GT35R. This turbocharger, on low boost, flows 1000-1100 cfm. Today's technology has taken that turbocharger and increased its CFM while retaining the same physical size/characteristics (i.e HTA, PTE, etc.). Therefore, were once a standard 3.5" core that flowed 1000cfm and used to get the job done is no longer efficient. Another example would be today's bolt-on turbochargers. Typical bolt-on turbochargers flow anywere from 400cfm-800cfm. This would suite an intercooler that flows 900cfm-1000cfm. But anything passing that intercooler CFM rating would cause heat soak and making the intercooler in-efficient.

With the growing motor sports community (time-attack, drag, autocross, etc..). Efficiency and consistency is a major factor when competing. To have an intercooler that is not only efficient but keeping a consistent "cool" charge is very important.

I ain't hatin' here, but can you explain the logic behind an intercooler that will outflow nearly every turbo on the planet? Is there pressure loss data on this?

Everyone elses kits are 4.5" so it looks like AMR went the extra .5".

Not to mention I have see tons of EVO's running 5-6" intercoolers.

Looks great. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to new subaru parts.

How wide is it with and without end tanks? How much for the core with end tanks on? Will it fit on an 04 sti bumper cover trimmed for a Turboxs fmic?

Core Dimensions: 24" x 12" x 5"

You will have to trim your bumper to suite this core. TXS FMIC is 3"-3.5".

Any pics on an 04/05? Mounting brackets to the chassis? I don't think I want to use 3" for the ic piping as it may be too much volume for air to fill without detriment to spool up. I was thinking of just using 2.5" piping and using a 2.5"-3.0" coupler at the inlet and outlets to retain a high air velocity. If the need for 3" ic piping arises then I can always have it made at that time. I can't use your full kit since I'm having custom ic piping fabricated for a custom rotated twin scroll kit.

The intercooler core comes with mounting brackets. Mounts the same way as our FMIC for your vehicle. Our brackets mount off of the chassis.

Neither companies make a 5" core.

This is an AMR core with AMR cast end tanks.

Mounting brackets are welded to the end tanks. If you look closely, you can see them in the picture above.

The bumper attaches same as factory. None of this is effected.

So will the mounting brackets be different when flipping it inlet/outlet on top or bottom for either set of years fitment? Do you have ic piping for rotated mount turbo setup? I want the core with those exact end tanks in the pics below. Just asking because the pics of the black core shown mounted on an 08-09 STI looks to have a different shape core.

Correct.

We can also ship with no brackets if you would like to fabricate.

The last "small" picture you posted is actually our OLDER style core which is not used anymore.
