Default Week old 2002 2.5 with a dead battery

Hi, my mother in law just got a 2002 RS five days ago and today the battery is dead. She is certain she did not leave any lights on and the dealer thinks it may be related to the alarm.

Of course, my wife and mother in law cannot provide clearer details (I have learned to give up on this), but wondered if any of you might know of this issue (if it is an issue).

By the way, our family count of Subaru's is now my WRX Wagon, my wifes Legacy wagon, mother in laws RS, father in laws Legacy sedan and sister in law just bought a Forester!

Just take the car back to dealer. Since the car is so new, dealer should replace it at no charge.

This happened to my cusine's Acura before. Battery simply dies after one month. Dealer replaced the battery without any hassle.
They did explain sometimes the battery got forzen during the ocean transit, thus kill the battery.

On my 2000 RS, the headlights shutoff when you turn off the ignition.

However, the car has a parking light switch on top of the steering column which will turn on the parking lights at any time. Does the 2002 RS also have this switch? The parking lights are not very bright and you may not notice that they are on during the day.

The other light to check is the interior ceiling light and the map lights. Were any of these lights left on?

Yes, the ceiling light is EASILY knocked into the on position... Ive done it in my car already (saw it luckily), and my parents legacy did it too but luckly caught it as well...

But, it could be that the dealer left the car running alot at the dealer, or just sitting there with the key in. Ive seen alot of cars at dealerships with dead batteries.

brilliant suggestion yuzo

Why does the dealer think it's related to the alarm?
Can't be drawing that much power unless it flips out & constantly blinks the lights, but you'd notice that.
