2004 STi Twin Scroll 6262
I recently decided to build up an engine for my 2004 STi. It is going to be a long road ahead, but I'm excited none the less.
This build is going to have quite a few one - off parts... made from me, a new exhaust man on the Subaru block, and a very reputable shop trying to make their abilities known in the Subaru Community. This build will be all done out of my pocket, just getting established into the real world, as I graduated school in May 2011. Have nothing better to do when I'm home than tinker in the garage, and since I got my 2004 WRX in 2009, I've wanted to have a quick car. I don't expect this build to be done done till September of 2012, but It could be running on the new motor by the beginning of May. Goals for the car are to have a fun car to drive on the weekends, that I can change the map at the track, and go to the 1/4 mile, go to a road course, and maybe autox... I think my turbo is going to prohibit me from being competitive... but it will still be fun to do. Anyways - here is the mod list for the engine, along with the rest of the stuff that has been done / will be done before I consider this build to be done done. Short Block
Brakes[*]Goodrich SS Lines[*]Grimmspeed Master Cylinder Brace Cooling[*] Koyo Radiator[*] Samco Hoses[*] 11 Row Oil Cooler. Unsure if I'll use this at first start up. Please please advise if you see something that isn't going to work / you have suggestions as to what could be done differently. I already know who i'm going to be purchasing all of my goods from, but if you see a part change out that could be better for my build please let me know.

Good point -
It is going to be my first experience tearing down / building a motor, though I'm not doing the assembly. First exhaust for cody, as you mentioned, First set of fuel rails by Built Industries ( I think), Not many EFRs out there, Haven't seen many in engine bay surge tanks, though I know there are a few. Probably going to make my own coolant overflow / AOS / have cody do it. It isn't going to be 100% unique, but I feel like the more EFR turbo configurations that there are on NASIOC, the more we can decide as a community what turbo line (Garrett vs BW) is better suited for which application. I was hoping to have a turbo sooner, but the lead time is pretty long, not a big deal, I need to work on paying off Seans heads before I do anything. Layvon |

Your prob better off getting a treadstone core instead of searching for an APS one... Just have custom pipes made

SFW - I picked up a New APS core and pipes for 800. I knew someone with some resources.
Ha, Jeff - I didn't know where to put it, there's no power here yet, my car is nothing to look at yet, Built motor discussion? It was here or there. I've been following your build and Barigas build VERY closely over the last 1-2 months... and your build is what swayed me to go this direction John - I have done a little bit of research, and saw that some people were having issues with it, but the guy who is going to be tuning me, prefers AEM and is a dealer for them. I saw that AEM just had a new EMS came out, but I don't know much about it. Do you have any suggestions on an EMS besides the AEM? I dont think that having a MAF is an option. Period. I think that takes Stock ECU out of the question does it not? |

i wouldnt get L19 i would get the arp +625, much better, less chance of corrosion also get crower or turbo tuff i would not get BC, im very happy with my carrillo,
also for the power your looking for the stock ecu will do fine, you shouldnt be running crazy boost or high rpms, heck my stock igniton system and ecu are holding 9k at 29psi and 400whp and at 500whp a maf is still very effective or just talk to Freon or Carbibble about the new and forthcoming SD setups for the 32bit roms also what happened to fobia???? |

I hadn't heard of the 625s sean - I'll have to take a look at them. Why not BC I beams? I know you said that you weren't a fan of them before, but I looked and didn't see anyone with issues either. If there is a reason anyone knows why I shouldn't - let me know.
If I can keep the MAF - I haven't seen many people over 500 WHP with it - and I'm having trouble finding a good sized intake. Initially I was going to go with a KStech and scale the MAF. Then just get a coupler to go to inlet, then tune, but I don't know how well that would work. As for Fobia - The guy doing the exhaust work will be able to do just as good of work as fobia, plus he's local, and hes been wanting to get into the subaru market. He offers a lifetime guarantee against cracking. http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._7547991_n.jpg I think he'll be able to handle my car. Didn't know about any snapping cosworth stuff. Compared to other companies volumes, there sure is a lot of negative feedback about the Cosworth stuff. |

It's going to be a heated arguement until there is about 20 of each fully built. I'm thinking mine will be around the 5th car on here with a 7670. Unless BW Really starts churning them out and some people with some deeper pockets starts and finishes faster than I can afford to spend.
On Full Races website, they say that the 83xx EFR is comparable to a GT35, so we'll see. I'm not aiming to set records, just to be set in my seat. |
