Hello!
Hey, newb here to NASIOC/ Subaru's in general...
I'm about to buy a buddies 96 Impreza with a 1.8. Don't know diddly about this car. Its going to serve as my winter beater for my Miata. My last Miata beater was a Festiva that ended up getting a Miata 1.6 DOHC (upgrade from 1.3 SOHC). I don't leave ANYTHING alone. Wih the 1.8 are there any mods available? How do they take to turbos, etc. If I keep the car around for a while, I'd probably drop in an STI motor and do a 22B styled exterior. My driveway is gravel and about a mile long and twisty...It'll be hard for me to control myself! Well, anyhoo, hello and I love this ~~>

Hello GC8 owner!
The 1.8 has literally no power what so ever. 110hp and 110 ft.-lbs. of torque. The most people have done are turbo or swap. As for mods, any parts from 93-01 imprezas are interchangable: exhausts, body kits, etc. with minor exceptions to some parts such as intakes and front ends. My suggestion is to start with gaining knowledge of driving, mod the brakes and suspension, because you can never go wrong there. Also, check out rs25.com, NASIOC's younger sister site. Look around and read the stickies! |

Cool, thanks for the tip!
Suspension and wheels/ tires are always first order of business. The power I'm not too overly concerned about. I *hope* to be installing a 5.0 in my Miata this winter. The Sube will be my gas getter/ winter car. |

Umm, where to start...
The 1.8 is a strong engine, as far as it's physically concerned. You could turbo it easily with the right EM. As for mods, there's suspension, exhaust, all kinds of mods available. EJ207 swap... Make sure you swap trans as well, the stock 5MT/4EAT won't handle the power, especially going from a 93 bph 1.8 to a 300 bhp STi motor. |
