What to buy - 2002 RS or TS?
Help! I am looking for a new car. Is the 2002 2.5 RS ($26995 MSRP) worth $5000 more than the 2002 2.5 TS ($21995 MSRP)? I had never driven the Imprezas until I took the TS for a test drive yesterday. ---- I was very impressed with the handling and power! Unfortunately, the RS was not available for testing. I noted in the brochure that the RS has the following extras: sport suspension, alloy wheels/P205s, cruise control, front and rear discs, a trunk and an internal trunk release. Is this worth the extra $5K?
The other cars I am considering are the Golf 1.8 Turbo (amazing engine but...Reliability?), Acura 1.7 EL (127HP luxury Civic), and Honda Accord (kinda boring but very good all round). Any advice on the above would be greatly appreciated.

all of those r good cars in their own respect, but what happens when another snow blizzard hits Vancouver again? goto the mountains often? Vancouver rain always leaves lots of water on the roads. The AWD is what makes these cars fun to drive.
I would think the RS is worth that extra few K's. It is a really nice car inside and out. I'd say even a little better [if not same caliber] than the mid-range Accords. Most Honda interiors look really cheap to me. |

Well, I have a 2002 2.5RS Auto. I don't normally let people drive my car (even my parents), but if you'd like, I can meet up with ya, maybe in a parking lot or something so you can try it out. I've just got over 1600km a few days ago... PM me if you'd like

I agree with Keiho!
Once you get the car you are going to want to modify it. That being said, one of the first three things you will likely modify is the suspension, and $5000 will buy you a new suspension, brakes, fuel door release, etc. etc. etc. In addition, if you are a DIY kind of person, you can take pride in the fact that you did the mods yourself. A great way to edjumicate yourself about your ride. Plus you have the added benefit of driving a sleeper Wagon. |

I used to drive the previous model RS, and now I'm driving the new age TS wagon. Personally, I feel like they are just the same. And rather save that 5K for mod. later.

Put it this way. What CAN you afford?
If you can afford the RS then by all means go for it. I personally don't think paying an extra 5 grand for rear discs is worth it. The suspension most people swap out anyway (you might find them adequate, who knows?), doesn't matter what size tires the RS gets because the tires are junk. So 5 grand extra for rear disc brakes and 16 inch rims....you decide. If you can afford it sure. Remember, its the exact same motor and drivetrain in both cars. |

not to mention that you can get much more space in the wagon...so it's really what suits you better....and in your list i would personally pick either the 2.5RS or the Golf 1.8T(i heard that the 1.8T is a very reliable engine and you can easily get more out of that engine)
Edit: the seats in the 2.5RS are really comfy but i'm not sure if they are the same ones as the TS [This message has been edited by NA Impreza (edited April 21, 2001).] |
