Really getting to hate GM ownership of Subie!
I was just at the book store yesterday to check out the new batch of auto mags. I was looking at the British magazine called EVO. It says that the reason GM bought into Subaru so they can equip Saabs(which they own) with Subaru's awd system. NOw that makes me angry I hate Saabs.

I dont know why you guys are disappointed. Saabs are nice cars and really only missing good power delivery.
Did you read the part where they plan on more powerfull models of their next 9-3. More power, subie drivetran and chassis. What a kick A$$ car. Id consider one along with my RS. cOz |

Starting to seem like GM is more of a parasite then I already thought them to be. Why bother to design or engineer a better car when you can just buy into another company and steal their ideas and claim them for your own. Then again maybe they are trying to branch out in leu of the higher gas prices. The prices have already started to slow down the sale of SUV's. Now if only they would incorporate better Quality Controls, higher grade parts, better emissions, better vehicle safety, more standard features on the cars, and getter paint. I know of alot of owners who were less then impressed with their paint quality on their vehicles. Then again we got a thin paint also. Hmmm maybe that was them getting ready for GM to buy in?

I don't like how Saabs look or drive, but mostly, it's Saab drivers I hate. What really get's me is that GM will not be supportive of the Subaru platform. They would rather push Saabs and steal Subaru technology, and If Saabs were good cars, than they wouldn't have problems with power delivery. I would prefer to see higher end Subaru's than Saabs. I like the weight balance of the boxer engines. Sweden can keep their over torqued FWD to themselves.

Nothing wrong with SAABs..
They had a long and venerable rally history. Especially with a certain Eric Carlsson. Tough, with the V4 quick and in the hands of Scandanavian drivers hard to beat. Richard |

Calm down, everyone...
There's a reason Subaru agreed to be bought by GM. That reason is money. Financial backing makes research work, and GM has a whole lot more of it than Fuji. As for Saabs...I don't think we should be concerned. They're Saabs. But maybe I'm wrong. |

It's capitalism @ work. I had a '97 Rodeo which is 50%GM owned and it was 100% good. It even had delphi electronics and Harrison radiator. (both Big GM suppliers) My '00 Trooper has a big old Delphi Computer in it. GM may not totally screw up Subaru. Besides, FHI must have had a financial reason to sell to GM.

Well, HJ, that's how the automotive industry works... Everyone is in bed with everyone else, to one degree or another. I, personally, think that Saab's are pretty nice cars. Their only Achille's Heel is that they're all FWD. This purported transfer of technology from Subaru to Saab is a good thing. If GM makes more money on Saab's because they were able to leverage existing AWD technology from Subaru, then it stands to reason that they might be more favorably inclined to put some money into hi-po Sube's for the US market.
