Default What gearset can I use with my EJ18 tranny?

Hi, I was wondering what gearsets will fit in my tranny case. I have a 94 Impreza (1.8L) but I'm swapping a WRX engine and will soon have to replace the tranny gears at least. I would preffer to do it this way but was wondering what all chooses do I have without having to change the differentials and a lot of drive train parts?
Will an old STi set fit?
Thanks, Micah

According to Rallispec, the Type RA gearset they sell will NOT fit in the gearboxes older than 98. However, I'm not quite sure why this is or if it is even true. I haven't personally asked them about this. Some vendors just put blanket statements that say parts are only compatible with RS years when, in fact, they apply to any GC/GF year. There were a couple subtle transmission redesigns over the years. The MY93-MY95 used one type, the MY97 used the modern transmission (I thought), and the MY96 uses an intermediate. Your best bet is to call some of the vendors that have actually installed gearsets and get their opinion. You can try Dave at Rallispec or Ed at RenickMotorsports. I'm sure there are others, but those guys definitely know their stuff.

Model code should be MT5 (or commonly 5MT) but that doesn't really mean much
